Hollywood suspends parking fees at city-operated beach garages for local residents

Hollywood, Florida – Hollywood residents living in low-lying areas have been given another option for protecting their personal vehicles, with parking fees temporarily suspended at city-operated parking garages on Hollywood Beach.

The fee waiver began at 1 p.m. on September 27 and will remain in effect until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29. The temporary measure is intended to assist residents who may need to move their vehicles from areas that could be affected by flooding or other conditions.

Residents of Hollywood can park their personal vehicles at the designated city-operated garages on a first-come, first-served basis during the fee suspension period. Anyone using the garages will need to provide proof that they live in Hollywood.

The temporary parking arrangement is limited to personal vehicles. Commercial trucks and fleet vehicles will not be permitted to use the garages under the program.

City officials are also reminding residents that vehicles must be parked legally in marked parking spaces. The temporary suspension of fees does not change the normal parking rules inside the garages.

Vehicles that are parked illegally or positioned in a way that blocks another vehicle may be ticketed. They could also be towed, according to the city.

Two city-operated parking garages are identified for Hollywood Beach parking. The Garfield Garage is located at 300 Connecticut St., while the Nebraska Garage is at 327 Nebraska St.

The city’s decision gives residents in vulnerable areas a place to move their vehicles while the temporary parking policy is in effect. Because spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, residents are not guaranteed a space at either location.

The parking fee suspension is scheduled to end at 5 p.m. on September 29. Residents using the garages are encouraged to follow posted rules, park only in marked spaces and have proof of Hollywood residency available when required.
