FDOT issues updated traffic impact report detailing upcoming road construction and lane closures across Davie and Broward County

Davie, Florida – Drivers traveling through Davie and other parts of Broward County should be prepared for nighttime lane closures and other traffic changes as construction and maintenance work continues on several state highways. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has provided an updated traffic impact report covering work expected through October 4, 2026.

Several projects are scheduled to affect major roads, including University Drive, I-595, I-75 and I-95. Most of the work will take place overnight in an effort to reduce the impact on daytime traffic. However, motorists may still experience delays, detours and changing traffic patterns.

FDOT also warns that weather conditions could affect some nighttime construction activities, particularly milling, resurfacing and pavement striping.

One of the major projects affecting Davie is the State Road 817/University Drive Improvements Project. The work is focused on improving traffic movement and safety along an important section of University Drive near I-595.

As part of the project, crews are widening northbound University Drive to improve the flow of vehicles approaching the I-595 entrance ramp. The project also includes new lighting, upgraded bus shelters, drainage improvements, safer sidewalks and additional road signs.

To allow crews to work safely, one or two northbound lanes may be closed each night between south of SW 24th Street/Nova Drive and the I-595 entrance ramp. The closures are scheduled as needed from 8:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.

Drivers should also pay close attention to an upcoming full ramp closure connected to the project.

The entrance ramp from northbound University Drive to westbound I-595 will be closed beginning Sunday, October 4, at 10 p.m. The closure is scheduled to continue until 6 a.m. Monday, October 5.

FDOT said the temporary closure is needed so crews can safely carry out traffic shift operations. During the closure, drivers heading toward westbound I-595 will need to follow a detour using westbound S.R. 84 before accessing westbound S.R. 862/I-595.

Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to allow additional time and follow posted signs while the ramp is closed.

Additional nighttime work is scheduled around I-595 and I-95.

The eastbound I-595 inside lane, along with the northbound and southbound I-95 direct connectors leading to the Express Lanes, may be closed Sunday through Thursday nights. The closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. as crews complete punch list operations.

During these closures, motorists will not be able to use the direct connectors to reach the Express Lanes. Instead, drivers will need to use the general-purpose ramps to access northbound or southbound I-95.

Florida Highway Patrol will be present in the area, while signs will be placed to guide drivers through the changing traffic pattern.

Other interstate work is also expected to affect drivers during the reporting period.

Two right lanes on northbound I-75 at Griffin Road will be closed from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. Thursday, October 1. The closure is planned to allow crews to install an overlay on the roadway.

Southbound I-75 Express Lanes will also be closed overnight for lighting repairs. Those closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, through Friday, October 9.

Meanwhile, eastbound and westbound I-595 between U.S. 441 and I-95 will have shoulder closures as needed. The closures may occur during both daytime and nighttime hours from Sunday through Thursday.

Because construction schedules can change, drivers should check current traffic information before traveling through the affected areas.

Another major FDOT project in the area is the U.S. 441/State Road 7 Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Project.

Unlike some of the other projects listed in the traffic report, FDOT says there will be no lane closures associated with this project.

The work is intended to improve the condition and long-term resilience of the roadway while also addressing pedestrian safety, accessibility and visibility at night.

Planned improvements include repaving the roadway, installing a signalized pedestrian crosswalk at SW 16th Street and improving pedestrian signals at SW 54th Court.

The project also includes upgrades to sidewalks and curb ramps, along with new pavement markings and signage. LED lighting will be installed as part of the effort to improve nighttime visibility.

Concrete barrier walls will also be added south of Orange Drive near canal C-11.

FDOT said the improvements are designed to provide longer-lasting infrastructure while making the roadway safer and more accessible for people traveling by vehicle or on foot.
