Davie, Florida – On Saturday, September 13, 2025, the Town of Davie will once again host its much-anticipated annual Mayors’ Chess Challenge, inviting residents of all ages and skill levels to come together for a morning of friendly competition and community fun. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., will be held at the Pine Island Multipurpose Center located at 3801 S. Pine Island Road. Best of all, participation is completely free.

The Mayors’ Chess Challenge provides a unique opportunity for chess enthusiasts and beginners alike to engage with elected officials and community leaders over the timeless game of chess. It’s a chance to enjoy spirited matches in a welcoming atmosphere, where newcomers can get guidance and support from professional instructors representing Chess Art, who will be available to help players learn the ropes.

This event is part of a larger tradition that began in South Florida a decade ago, designed to highlight the many benefits of chess — a game known not just for its strategic depth but also for its role in fostering valuable life skills. Across 20 municipalities, the Mayors’ Chess Challenge brings communities together while encouraging participants to develop sharper critical thinking, enhanced concentration, problem-solving abilities, and greater self-confidence. The friendly competition also promotes good sportsmanship, a core value of the event.

To make the experience even more engaging, attendees can collect a special “passport” to track the various local chess events they attend throughout the year. At the Davie event, participants will receive a unique 100-year commemorative stamp celebrating the Town’s upcoming centennial, adding a historic touch to the day’s festivities.

All necessary chess equipment will be provided by the Town, ensuring that everyone can jump right into the action without any need for prior preparation. The atmosphere promises to be light and social, with refreshments available to keep players energized. To add some extra excitement, raffle prizes will be given to those who take part, making the event fun for competitors and spectators alike.

For those interested in learning more or signing up, the Davie Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is available to answer questions and provide further details. They can be reached at 954-797-1181 or via email at [email protected].
