Florida Atlantic University enters the U.S. News Top 100 Public Universities for the first time reflecting academic excellence and student success

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Florida Atlantic University has achieved a major milestone, earning a spot among the nation’s top 100 public universities for the first time. The 2026 edition of the U.S. News & World Report “Top Public Schools” ranking placed FAU at No. 100, marking a rise from No. 103 in last year’s list and highlighting the university’s continued growth and national recognition.
“Florida Atlantic’s ascent into the U.S. News Top 100 Public Schools ranking is a milestone that reflects the extraordinary momentum and impact our university has built over the years, defined by excellence, innovation and opportunity,” said FAU President Adam Hasner. “I am proud to celebrate this achievement with our students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff and community, whose hard work and dedication have propelled our rise as a national leader in higher education. With this bold trajectory, Florida Atlantic will continue to accelerate, transforming lives through student success, innovative research and social mobility.”
The university’s climb in the rankings reflects improvements across several key categories. Notably, FAU rose to No. 30 this year in the “Social Mobility” category, up from No. 32 last year. This metric evaluates universities on graduation rates of first-generation students and those receiving Pell grants, considering both public and private institutions nationwide. For FAU, this ranking demonstrates a longstanding commitment to providing opportunities and support for students who face economic and social barriers.
Florida Atlantic’s efforts to promote student success are further evident in its placement at No. 25 nationally for Pell Grant Graduation Performance. This indicator measures how effectively the university supports low-income students through graduation, underscoring FAU’s focus on removing obstacles and fostering achievement.
In addition to public university rankings, FAU improved its overall position among national institutions, moving to No. 183 from No. 189 last year in the “Top National Schools” category. This broad recognition highlights the university’s growing reputation not just in Florida, but across the United States.
Experts say that such rankings reflect more than test scores or research funding—they capture the ability of an institution to provide meaningful opportunities for students and prepare graduates for success in a rapidly evolving workforce. For FAU, the rise in national standings is a sign of both academic rigor and the university’s dedication to equity, access, and innovation.
With this achievement, Florida Atlantic University sends a clear message to prospective students, faculty, and partners: it is a place where ambition meets opportunity, where resources are aligned to support success, and where communities can expect tangible impact. The university’s trajectory suggests that this is only the beginning of continued growth, rising influence, and expanding opportunities for its student body and the broader community.
As the fall semester progresses, students and faculty alike can take pride in FAU’s inclusion in the top 100 public universities—a milestone that reflects years of hard work, strategic planning, and a commitment to transforming lives through education.
