Fort Lauderdale begins Holiday Drive water main extension to improve water pressure and fire safety for neighborhood properties

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale is set to begin a short-term construction project to extend the water distribution system along Holiday Drive, east of A1A/Seabreeze Boulevard. The work, which will improve water pressure for nearby properties, is scheduled to begin Monday, September 29, 2025, and is expected to conclude Friday, October 3, 2025.

The project will extend an existing water main to ensure that homes and businesses in the area receive sufficient water pressure, particularly to operate fire suppression systems effectively. In addition to the main extension, crews will restore asphalt as needed once construction is complete. Work will occur on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., though the schedule may change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

“Completing this project will require digging to expose the existing water main and install new pipe. Neighbors can expect noisy and dusty conditions on site,” city officials said. “Crews will take precautions to minimize impacts when possible.”

Residents and visitors should also expect some changes to traffic patterns during the project. Holiday Drive will remain open to local traffic only, and traffic control personnel will be present to direct vehicles as necessary. Drivers are urged to follow posted signs and exercise caution when passing through the area.

City officials noted that the start of the project was accelerated to avoid complications related to the upcoming king tides, which are expected from October 5-12, 2025. The timing ensures that construction can be completed before high-water events potentially interfere with the work.

Andrew Wells, the City of Fort Lauderdale Distribution & Collection Chief, encourages residents with questions or concerns to reach out directly. “We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank our neighbors for their patience while these improvements are underway,” Wells said. Residents may contact him at 954-828-7829 or via email at [email protected].

Additionally, the City’s Customer Service Center is available to answer inquiries at 954-828-8000 or [email protected]. Officials emphasize that the improvements will ultimately benefit the community by increasing water reliability and safety for both residential and commercial properties.

While temporary disruptions are expected, the project reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and upgrading essential infrastructure. Residents are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly, expect some construction-related noise and dust, and follow all safety instructions provided by on-site crews.

Once completed, the water main extension along Holiday Drive will provide enhanced service and ensure adequate water pressure for critical systems, supporting both day-to-day operations and emergency preparedness in the neighborhood.
