West Park, Florida – The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) is hosting a free Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-A-Thon event this Saturday, offering West Park residents the opportunity to shred personal documents and safely dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired medications. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Park City Hall, located at 1965 South State Road 7.

“This is a great chance for residents to protect their personal information while safely getting rid of old medications,” said a BSO spokesperson. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of this community service.”

For the shredding portion of the event, participants are allowed a maximum of two boxes per vehicle, with each box measuring no more than 16 inches long, 12 inches wide, and 12 inches high. Volunteers will ensure that documents are shredded on-site, giving attendees peace of mind that sensitive information is securely destroyed.

Residents turning in prescription medications will also be rewarded with a $5 gift card, available while supplies last. It is important to note that needles and other sharp objects will not be accepted at this event, so participants should plan accordingly.

The Shred-A-Thon and medicine disposal event is part of BSO’s ongoing efforts to promote community safety and environmental responsibility. Proper disposal of prescription medications helps prevent accidental ingestion, misuse, and potential environmental contamination, while shredding documents helps protect against identity theft and fraud.
