Broward County and City of Hollywood announce detailed Thanksgiving holiday schedule for offices and public services

Broward County, Florida – As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, local officials are preparing for the annual pause in government operations across Broward County and the City of Hollywood. While residents settle into traditions of family meals and extended weekends, the area’s public agencies are adjusting their own schedules to accommodate the long holiday break. According to announcements from both jurisdictions, “Broward County and City administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, November 27th & Friday, November 28th.” This two-day closure applies to most in-person public services, although online tools and payment systems will continue to operate without interruption.

Even with offices closed, city leaders emphasized that digital access remains available around the clock. “Online services, including payments, remain available. Check the City’s online services here.” For residents accustomed to handling routine business from home, this means essential transactions can still be completed throughout the holiday period. Officials recommend using these online options for matters that cannot wait until the following week.

Essential public works will continue to run at their normal pace, with no holiday modifications for waste collection. The notice makes clear that “Collections will take place on their regular schedule.” This covers garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulk waste—an important detail for households expecting extra refuse from family gatherings, cooking, and seasonal clean-ups. The full collection schedule remains posted online for anyone needing a closer look at their neighborhood’s pickup timing.

Public recreation spaces will see a mix of availability and closures. City-run parks, including Dowdy Field, Hollywood West Field, and Rotary Park—covering both Pell Field and Whitlock Field—will remain open for outdoor use from sunrise to sunset. Families looking for fresh air after a large holiday meal or residents wanting to take advantage of cooler weather will still have access to these open spaces throughout the long weekend.

However, several indoor and specialized facilities will not operate during the break. As stated in the official notice, “Community Centers, Boggs Field, Driftwood Pool, Attucks Pool, Police Athletic League and the Washington Park Athletic Fields are closed.” These closures mean that organized programs, youth activities, and aquatic facilities will temporarily pause until regular hours resume.

Local officials encourage residents to plan ahead, take note of adjusted schedules, and enjoy a safe and restful Thanksgiving holiday across Broward County and Hollywood.
