Oakland Park, Florida – Authorities are investigating a deadly incident in Oakland Park after a person was struck and killed by a train Saturday afternoon, according to information released by the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The crash brought emergency crews and detectives to a busy stretch of roadway and temporarily halted rail traffic as officials worked to gather details.

BSO said the first call for help came in just before 2:30 p.m., when dispatchers received reports of a train hitting a pedestrian near the 1600 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard. The location sits beside a well-traveled section of the city, not far from local businesses and residential neighborhoods, and is frequently crossed by both drivers and pedestrians.

When deputies arrived, they found the individual had died at the scene. “When deputies arrived, they found the person dead on the scene, BSO said.” No additional information regarding the victim’s identity has been released as investigators continue their work.

Detectives from BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units responded shortly after the initial call, beginning interviews and documenting evidence around the tracks. “Detectives with BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.” It remains unclear what led to the pedestrian being on the tracks or whether any contributing factors, such as trespassing or train speed, played a role.

Rail companies operating in the area were notified, and service delays were expected while investigators remained on site. Incidents involving trains often require extended closures since multiple agencies must coordinate to clear the area safely.

Officials have not indicated when they expect to release further information. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided once next of kin notifications and additional reviews are completed.
