Hilda Vargas de Matthews, who ran La La Chic, had previously told that she planned to relocate her boutique to the Shoppes at Deerfield. “This is really such a beautiful place of business,” she said at the time, reflecting the pride many owners felt in their longtime marketplace locations.

For decades, Festival Marketplace was known for its eclectic mix of boutiques, jewelers, specialty shops, and eateries.
