Kyndall Brown from Osceola County named 2027 Florida Teacher of the Year

Orlando, Florida – Kyndall Brown, an agriculture teacher from Osceola County, has been named Florida’s 2027 Teacher of the Year, earning the state’s highest recognition for educators after being selected from a group of outstanding finalists from across Florida.

The Florida Department of Education announced Brown’s selection during a ceremony in Orlando on July 22, 2026. As the 2027 Florida Teacher of the Year, Brown will serve for one year as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education, representing teachers throughout the state and advocating for students, educators, and educational opportunities.

Brown was chosen after a rigorous selection process that included five Teacher of the Year finalists. The award recognizes educators who demonstrate exceptional teaching ability, leadership, dedication to students, and a commitment to improving their schools and communities.

Currently an agriculture teacher at Harmony Middle School in Osceola County, Brown has built a classroom environment focused on innovation, hands-on learning, and real-world experiences. Her work has helped students understand the connection between agriculture, science, and everyday life while preparing them with skills that extend beyond the classroom.

As part of her teaching efforts, Brown created and introduced a detailed agriscience curriculum designed for students in grades 6 through 8. The standards-based program reaches more than 200 students each year and gives young learners opportunities to explore agriculture through structured lessons, projects, and practical activities.

Her impact at Harmony Middle School goes beyond traditional instruction. Brown founded the Fishing Club, a school-wide organization that brings students from different grade levels together through a shared interest and hands-on experiences. The club provides students with opportunities to build relationships, develop skills, and participate in activities connected to the outdoors.

Brown has also developed partnerships with local farms, allowing students to experience agriculture outside the classroom. Through these collaborations, students gain direct exposure to farming practices and learn how agricultural careers and industries operate in the real world.

Brown’s educational background reflects her broad interest in agriculture, leadership, and business. She earned an associate’s degree from Valencia College, a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Mississippi State University, and a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University Shreveport.

Along with naming the 2027 Florida Teacher of the Year, the Florida Department of Education recognized four other educators with special awards celebrating leadership, service, and excellence in education.

The Commissioner’s Leadership Award was presented to Dr. Denise Carlin, Superintendent of Lee County Schools. The honor recognizes an educational leader whose dedication has created a meaningful impact for students, teachers, and schools.

Kenneth Horne, Leon County Teacher of the Year, received the inaugural America 250 Award. The award highlights educators who encourage students to develop a deeper understanding of American history, civic responsibility, and the events and principles that have shaped the nation.

The Educator Legacy Award was presented to Jennifer Bryant, Sumter County Teacher of the Year. The recognition honors an educator who inspires students through exceptional teaching practices and a lasting commitment to academic success.

Cliff Dawson, Manatee County Teacher of the Year, received the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations’ “Invested in Excellence” Award. The award celebrates educators who have made significant contributions to students, their schools, and the wider community through dedication and service.

The recognition of Brown and the other award recipients highlights the important role educators play throughout Florida. From agriculture classrooms to school leadership positions, the honorees demonstrate the many ways teachers and education professionals help students grow, discover new opportunities, and prepare for the future.

As Florida’s 2027 Teacher of the Year, Brown will now take on a statewide role, sharing her experiences and representing educators who work every day to support students across Florida.
