Broward County, Florida – Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is preparing to welcome thousands of students back to classrooms as the district gets ready for the first day of the 2026/27 school year on Monday, August 10, 2026.

After months of summer preparation, schools and district departments have completed work aimed at creating safe, supportive and engaging learning environments for students across Broward County. Officials said the focus remains on helping every student begin the new academic year with the tools, resources and opportunities needed for success.

Teachers, administrators and staff members have spent the summer organizing classrooms, preparing lessons and making sure campuses are ready for the return of students. The district said its preparations are designed to support academic growth while also ensuring students have access to programs and services that encourage their overall development.

To celebrate the start of the new school year, BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn will visit schools throughout Broward County on the first day. During these visits, he will welcome students, families, teachers and staff while highlighting the district’s commitment to academic achievement and positive school experiences.

The superintendent’s visits will also showcase the work being done across the district to provide students with opportunities to succeed. School leaders are expected to emphasize the importance of strong partnerships between educators, families and communities as the new year begins.

Later that day, Dr. Hepburn will host the First Day of School News Conference at 3 p.m. on Monday, August 10, at the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center. During the event, he will provide an update on the opening of schools and discuss key priorities for the 2026/27 school year.

The new school year will continue several district initiatives focused on improving student outcomes. These efforts include expanded academic opportunities, stronger safety and security measures, innovative career and technical education programs and additional support services designed to help students succeed.

BCPS officials said these programs are part of the district’s ongoing effort to meet the needs of a diverse student population and prepare students for future opportunities. By expanding learning options and strengthening support systems, the district aims to create an environment where every student has the chance to reach their full potential.

Members of the media have been invited to join the superintendent during designated school visits and attend the First Day of School News Conference. The events will provide an opportunity to highlight the preparations behind the school opening and share updates on the district’s goals for the year ahead.

As BCPS begins the 2026/27 academic year, district leaders say their focus remains on providing quality education, maintaining safe campuses and ensuring every student receives the support needed for a successful school experience.
