Sewer Pump Station A-20 improvements in Fort Lauderdale extended into early 2027 as additional rehabilitation work continues
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Work to rehabilitate and upgrade Sewer Pump Station A-20 in Fort Lauderdale’s Lake Ridge neighborhood is continuing, but the project is now expected to take longer than originally planned.
The City of Fort Lauderdale has extended the estimated completion date from late 2026 to early 2027 because additional rehabilitation work is needed at the station. Construction remains active on weekdays, with crews generally working between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The schedule can change because of bad weather or other unexpected circumstances, city officials said.
The sewer pump station is located along the south side of NE 11th Street between NE 14th Avenue and NE 15th Avenue. The work is being carried out by Southern Underground Industries, Inc. as the city moves ahead with a series of improvements intended to replace aging infrastructure and improve the station’s performance.
Construction began Monday, October 20, 2025. Since then, crews have already completed several major parts of the work, including demolishing existing components, cleaning structures at the site and installing new pumps.
Additional work is still required before the project can be finished.
The improvements are focused largely on modernizing equipment that is essential to the operation of the sewer system. The project includes the installation of new pumps, electrical equipment and monitoring equipment that will track wastewater flow and the station’s capacity.
The city is also repairing underground structures that support the pump station. Those repairs are an important part of the broader rehabilitation effort, particularly as the project is intended to improve the facility’s reliability over the long term.
Replacing older equipment is expected to help the station operate more efficiently once construction is complete. The upgraded monitoring systems will also provide updated information about wastewater flow and the station’s capacity.
For residents and drivers in the Lake Ridge area, however, the work continues to have an impact on traffic.
NE 11th Street remains open only to local traffic between NE 14th Avenue and NE 15th Avenue while construction is underway. Drivers who are not traveling to properties in the immediate area are being directed to use an alternate route.
Through traffic is being detoured along NE 14th Avenue, NE 12th Street and NE 15th Avenue.
Drivers in the area are being asked to follow posted signs and use caution around the construction zone. The traffic restrictions are expected to remain in place while work on the pump station continues.
The extension of the project timeline means the improvements will continue into 2027 rather than reaching completion by the end of 2026 as initially anticipated. The city said the change is tied to additional rehabilitation work that became necessary at the station.
While the delay adds time to the construction schedule, the ongoing work is aimed at addressing both the visible equipment and the underlying structures that support the facility.
The project is part of the city’s effort to maintain and improve aging infrastructure. Sewer pump stations play an important role in moving wastewater through the system, making reliable pumps, electrical equipment, monitoring systems and supporting structures necessary for continued operation.
Crews will continue working during the scheduled weekday hours as the remaining rehabilitation and installation work moves forward. The daily schedule remains subject to weather and other unforeseen conditions that could affect construction.
Residents and motorists are being asked to remain patient while the work continues. The city has emphasized that the improvements are intended to strengthen the pump station and provide more reliable service over the long term.
For now, the most noticeable effect for people nearby remains the restricted section of NE 11th Street. Local access is being maintained, but drivers using the area as a through route must continue following the posted detour.
With the completion estimate now pushed into early 2027, crews have more work ahead before the upgraded Sewer Pump Station A-20 is ready. Once the rehabilitation is finished, the facility will have new pumps, updated electrical equipment, improved monitoring capabilities and repaired underground structures.
The city is continuing to advise motorists to plan for the traffic changes, watch for construction activity and drive carefully through the surrounding streets. Work will proceed as conditions allow while the remaining improvements are completed.
