Town of Davie hosts community collection drive through August 26 to support Colombia earthquake relief efforts and families affected by the disaster
Davie, Florida – The Town of Davie is asking residents and community members to help people affected by recent earthquakes in Colombia through a local collection drive organized to support humanitarian relief efforts.
The town is working with Mobile Mike and the Global Empowerment Mission, known as GEM, on the effort, which is accepting donations through August 26, 2026. Residents who want to contribute are being asked to bring new, unused items from a list of supplies identified as being among the most needed.
The collection drive provides residents with several places to drop off donations throughout Davie. The locations have different operating hours depending on the day of the week, giving people multiple opportunities to participate.
From Monday through Thursday, donations can be taken to the Town Clerk’s Office in Building C at 8800 SW 36th Street between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Residents can also bring items to the Pine Island Multipurpose Center at 3801 S. Pine Island Road, which is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Another weekday option is the Pine Island Fitness and Aquatic Center at 3800 SW 92nd Avenue. The facility accepts donations from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
On Fridays, donations can be delivered to the Pine Island Multipurpose Center from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. or to the Pine Island Fitness and Aquatic Center from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The weekend schedule is somewhat shorter. On Saturday and Sunday, the Pine Island Multipurpose Center is available for donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the Pine Island Fitness and Aquatic Center accepts donations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Organizers are seeking a wide range of supplies that can help people dealing with the aftermath of the earthquakes. Among the household items requested are tents, tarps, new sleeping bags, air mattresses, blankets, pillows and backpacks.
Work and emergency supplies are also needed. These include work gloves, work boots, hazmat suits, KN95 and other face masks, hand and foot warmers, industrial trash bags, duct tape, flashlights and portable radios.
Residents can also donate first aid kits, solar-powered lanterns and power banks. These items can be particularly useful for people facing disrupted living conditions and limited access to basic services following a disaster.
The collection effort is also focused on personal and family needs. Requested baby, children’s and adult supplies include diapers, wipes, bottles, clothing and adult diapers.
Hygiene products are another major part of the donation list. Organizers are asking for toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper, children’s hygiene products and feminine hygiene products.
The town is emphasizing that donated items should be new and unused before being brought to one of the collection locations.
For residents who would rather provide financial assistance, monetary donations can be made directly through the Global Empowerment Mission website. Financial contributions give the organization another way to support relief operations and address needs connected to the earthquake response.
The partnership between Davie, Mobile Mike and GEM gives local residents a direct opportunity to contribute to relief efforts from their own community. Rather than requiring people to travel elsewhere to donate, the collection drive provides several locations and a range of hours throughout the week.
The drive will continue through August 26, giving residents several more days to gather requested supplies and bring them to one of the designated drop-off sites.
Anyone seeking additional information about the collection drive can contact the Town of Davie by email at [email protected].
The town is encouraging residents who are able to help to consider donating one or more of the requested items as the humanitarian response to the earthquakes in Colombia continues.
