Broward County School Board votes to approve salary increases for seven additional employee groups, strengthening its commitment to staff compensation for the 2024/25 school year
Broward County, Florida – In a significant move to strengthen its workforce, the Broward County School Board recently approved salary increases for seven key employee groups for the 2024/25 school year. This decision, which was made unanimously by the board, includes an average 3% increase in base salaries for eligible employees, effective retroactively to July 1, 2024.
The salary increases will benefit a variety of employee groups across the district, including members of the Broward Teachers Union – Educational Support Professionals (BTU-ESP), Broward Teachers Union – Technical Support Personnel (BTU-TSP), the Confidential Office Personnel Association (COPA), and the Police Benevolent Association (PBA). Additionally, employees in the Federation of Public Employees (FOPE) Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), FOPE Clerical, and FOPE 4, which represents maintenance, facilities, transportation, and security/campus monitors, will also see the increase.
These salary adjustments are part of the Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) ongoing efforts to reward employees for their hard work and dedication to students and the community. The school district is investing nearly $46 million in employee compensation through these recent salary hikes, underscoring the School Board’s recognition of the essential contributions these employees make to the smooth operation of the district.
The increase was approved after successful negotiations between the School Board and the various employee unions, continuing the district’s tradition of working collaboratively with labor organizations to ensure fair compensation for its staff. The recent increases come on the heels of another round of salary adjustments approved earlier this year for educational leadership staff, including teachers, principals, and support staff in management positions.
“This latest round of salary increases demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in our employees, who are the backbone of our District,” said Dr. Howard Hepburn, Superintendent of Broward County Public Schools. “We are grateful for the collaborative spirit of our negotiating teams and the steadfast support of our School Board members.”
The salary adjustments for these seven employee groups are part of an ongoing effort by the School Board to ensure that BCPS remains competitive in attracting and retaining top talent.
