Pompano Beach, Florida – Tequesta Burris is a mother left in unimaginable pain after losing her son to gun violence. Her son, Ke’Tavious Walker, was tragically shot and killed in Pompano Beach last month, and now, Burris is asking for the community’s help in solving the senseless crime.

Burris, whose heartache is palpable, is reaching out to anyone with information on her son’s murder to come forward and speak with detectives. “I just need someone to reach out and understand what it is to be a mom, knowing that you’ll never be able to hug (your child) again or talk to them again,” Burris said, expressing the deep void left in her life by the loss of her son.

The shooting occurred early on the morning of Sunday, February 16. Around 12:52 a.m., Broward County Regional Communications received calls about a shooting at 713 N.W. Sixth Street in Pompano Beach. Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) deputies, along with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, responded promptly to the scene. There, they discovered Walker, an adult male, suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed him to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced dead. BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units arrived to investigate the incident, hoping to uncover clues that could lead to the responsible party.

For Burris, the grief is compounded by the uncertainty of who took her son’s life. She pleads for anyone who may have witnessed the event or heard anything unusual to come forward. “I can’t even explain how it is to lose someone that you truly love. I keep wanting to hear his voice or say, ‘I love you,’” she said. “Think about if it was your child. Wouldn’t you want to know what happened?”

Burris’s plea for answers has echoed throughout the community, hoping that someone, perhaps a neighbor or a passerby, has information that could help detectives piece together the events of that tragic night. She urges anyone who knows something, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to contact law enforcement and provide vital information.

Anyone with knowledge about the homicide of Ke’Tavious Walker is urged to contact BSO Detective Alison Craven-Swan at 954-321-4200. Alternatively, tips can be submitted through the SaferWatch app, or anonymously through Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or by dialing **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States. As an incentive for those who may be hesitant to come forward, Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to $10,000 for tips that lead to an arrest in the case.

As the investigation continues, Burris remains hopeful that someone will step up to help bring justice for her son. The pain of losing a child is one that no parent should endure, and she holds on to the hope that, through community support and the efforts of law enforcement, answers will come.
