City of Fort Lauderdale lifts precautionary waterway advisory for section of Intracoastal near Seville Street in Central Beach

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale has officially lifted a precautionary waterway advisory that had been in place for a section of the Intracoastal Waterway near Seville Street in Central Beach, District 2. The announcement comes following recent water quality testing that showed the area now meets Florida’s environmental standards for surface water safety.

The advisory, which was issued on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, was put in place as a safety measure after a wastewater discharge occurred due to an overflow in a nearby sewer manhole. The overflow caused wastewater to enter the stormwater system, prompting city officials to restrict water-related activities in the impacted area as a precaution.

The specific boundaries of the advisory area included:

• North: Granada Street
• South: Alhambra Street
• West: Intracoastal Waterway
• East: Birch Road

Since then, the City’s environmental teams have been conducting extensive water sampling in the affected area. Officials have confirmed that the water now meets the State of Florida’s surface water quality standards, and it is once again safe for public recreational use, such as boating and swimming.

City officials thanked the public for their patience and cooperation while testing was underway and emphasized the importance of community awareness when these types of environmental events occur.
