Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The Slow Burn Theatre Company is set to deliver an electrifying summer production of the West End smash-hit The Bodyguard The Musical, bringing a captivating blend of romance, suspense, and Whitney Houston’s greatest hits to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. From Saturday, June 7 through Sunday, June 22, theatergoers will be treated to an unforgettable experience in the Amaturo Theater. A special open-captioned performance will be held on Sunday, June 15, at 2 p.m. for those seeking an enhanced viewing experience.

Based on the hit 1992 film starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, The Bodyguard The Musical tells the gripping story of Frank Farmer, a former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, who is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from a dangerous stalker. What begins as a professional relationship soon blossoms into an unexpected romance, as both Frank and Rachel struggle with their roles and emotions. The play offers not only a thrilling narrative but also an emotional rollercoaster, highlighted by some of Whitney Houston’s most iconic songs.

Starring American Idol finalist Ta-Tynisa Wilson as Rachel Marron, the production promises to deliver a powerhouse performance that honors Houston’s legacy. Wilson’s vocal prowess will shine as she leads the audience through a series of the late singer’s most beloved hits, including “Queen of the Night,” “So Emotional,” “One Moment in Time,” “Saving All My Love,” “Run to You,” “I Have Nothing,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” and, of course, “I Will Always Love You,” one of the best-selling songs of all time. The combination of these timeless songs with a compelling storyline makes this a must-see musical.

The Bodyguard The Musical was originally produced in the West End by Michael Harrison and David Ian. With a book by Alexander Dinelaris and a screenplay adaptation by Lawrence Kasdan for the Warner Bros. film, this theatrical production is an exhilarating and music-forward show that has earned praise for its fast-paced storytelling and vibrant musicality. As The Guardian notes, it is “a joyful take on Whitney Houston’s greatest hits.”

The production features a talented principal cast, including Gabriell Salgado* as Frank Farmer, Lillie Eliza Thomas* as Nicki Marron, and Timothy Davis as The Stalker. Jaxon Compas portrays Fletcher, Rachel Marron’s young son, whose safety is at the heart of the drama. They are joined by a strong ensemble cast of actors, including Matthew Korinko*, Jerel T. Brown, Michael Materdomini, and Eli Flynn, among others.

The production is led by director Patrick Fitzwater, who brings a creative vision to the stage, alongside a skilled creative team. Nikolas Serrano’s set design, Clifford Spulock’s lighting design, Rick Peña’s costumes, and Ryan Crout’s music direction ensure that The Bodyguard will be an immersive and visually stunning experience for all. Reynel Reynaldo’s choreography and stage management by Jeffry George* and Jolie Rubinchik* complete the artistic team that makes this ambitious production come to life.

This highly anticipated musical is also supported by major organizations, including the Broward County Cultural Division, the Cultural Council, and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, along with sponsorships from American National Bank and Visit Lauderdale. The Salah Foundation and the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation have made it possible for students and community members to access complimentary tickets, further supporting the cultural engagement in the area. The production is additionally supported by Business for the Arts of Broward, underscoring the community’s commitment to the arts.

For those looking for an inclusive experience, the open-captioned performance on June 15 offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with hearing impairments to enjoy the show. During this performance, spoken dialogue will be displayed on a digital screen, allowing the action on stage to unfold seamlessly with the captions.
