City of Hollywood announces free parking at all municipal garages to support residents in flood-prone neighborhoods

Hollywood, Florida – In anticipation of potentially severe weather and to support residents living in low-lying neighborhoods, the City of Hollywood has announced a temporary suspension of parking fees at all four city-operated parking garages. This measure is intended to offer residents a safe and dry place to park their vehicles during the expected weather conditions.

From 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, through 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, residents will be able to park free of charge at designated city garages. The initiative is strictly for personal-use vehicles, and parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Hollywood officials stress that proof of residency will be required upon entry to ensure that the service benefits local residents who may be most affected by flooding.

The four garages included in this temporary waiver are:

• Garfield Garage, located at 300 Connecticut St.
• Nebraska Garage, located at 327 Nebraska St.
• Van Buren Garage, located at 251 S 20th Ave.
• Radius Garage, located at 251 N 19th Ave.

While the city is opening these facilities to the public without cost, certain rules still apply. Vehicles must be parked legally within marked spaces. Any vehicle found blocking others or parked outside of designated areas will be subject to ticketing and could potentially be towed. Additionally, commercial trucks and fleet vehicles are not allowed to take advantage of this offer.

All parked vehicles must be removed by 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, to avoid being charged the standard parking rates that will go back into effect after that time.

City officials hope that by providing this service, residents will have one less thing to worry about during the uncertain weather. “We are doing what we can to support the community during this time and encourage everyone to take the necessary precautions,” the city noted in its public statement.

Residents seeking more information are encouraged to follow the City of Hollywood’s official website and local alerts for updates throughout the week.
