Families can enjoy a free day of water fun and meet the Miami Sharks at the Waterworks event in Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach, Florida – The countdown to summer fun officially begins this May with a wet and wild celebration hosted by the City of Pompano Beach Parks and Recreation Department. Families from across the community are invited to “Waterworks,” a free, high-energy event happening Saturday, May 17th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Mitchell/Moore Park.
Designed to be more than just a day at the park, Waterworks will transform the entire grounds into a pop-up aquatic playground full of giant water slides, splash zones, and engaging water games suited for kids and adults alike. Organizers promise an action-packed afternoon for every age group, including a dedicated toddler zone carefully crafted to entertain the youngest visitors in a safe and splashy way.
“We want families to kick off the season with something joyful, active, and totally refreshing,” said a representative from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. “Waterworks is all about celebrating community, play, and togetherness.”
As upbeat music fills the air courtesy of a live DJ spinning summer favorites, guests will also have the chance to recharge with classic food truck fare and cool refreshments from a selection of on-site vendors. From snow cones to hot dogs, the event promises tasty treats to fuel all the fun.
One of the biggest highlights of the day will be the appearance of the Miami Sharks, South Florida’s professional rugby team. From 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., attendees can meet and greet players, snap photos, and get autographs. The team will also host a beginner-friendly rugby clinic, offering children and adults alike the rare chance to pick up tips from the pros in a casual, approachable setting. And, of course, fans can expect a lively visit from the team’s beloved mascot.
“Whether you’re sliding into fun or learning new rugby skills, Waterworks offers something for everyone,” say event organizers.
This year’s Waterworks event is more than just a fun day out—it also marks a growing partnership between city recreation efforts and local sports organizations. By bringing in groups like the Miami Sharks, the city aims to expose families to new sports and physical activities in a fun, non-competitive setting.
For families looking to shake off the spring heat, Waterworks might just be the perfect weekend escape. The event is free to attend, with plenty of shaded areas, places to sit, and ways to keep cool while the kids play.

Mark your calendar and grab your swimsuits—because this May 17th, Pompano Beach is the place to dive into the season early, all thanks to Waterworks.
