Pompano Beach, Florida – A Pompano Beach truck driver has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman in St. Lucie County, Florida, following an investigation that began with a report of a “suspicious person” near a local truck stop. Authorities say the incident unfolded late Thursday night behind the Pilot Truck Stop in Fort Pierce, bringing an abrupt end to what law enforcement officials are describing as a violent and senseless crime.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the South Rock Road area at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday after receiving a 911 call about a suspicious person in the vicinity. When officers arrived, they encountered Olson Jean, 41, a resident of Pompano Beach, near a semi-truck that had reportedly gone off the roadway into a ditch while attempting to turn around.

“During the preliminary investigation, deputies observed blood inside the cab of the semi-truck near the passenger-side door, as well as blood on the exterior passenger-side area of the vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post. Officers conducted an extensive area search while beginning their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the truck and its operator.

Jean, who is listed as both the owner and operator of the semi-truck, was initially arrested on a charge of resisting an officer without violence and was transported to the St. Lucie County Jail. However, as investigators continued to gather evidence, additional and more serious charges were brought against him.

On Saturday, following further investigation by St. Lucie County detectives, Jean was arrested on charges including first-degree murder with a firearm and tampering with evidence. These charges are connected to the homicide of Wendy Moncion, 32, of Coconut Creek. Details about the circumstances of Moncion’s death have not yet been released by authorities.

“This was a violent and senseless crime, and I want to commend the outstanding work of our Patrol Operations Bureau and Criminal Investigations Division for their relentless efforts in bringing this case forward,” Sheriff Richard Del Toro, Jr. said in a statement. “Their dedication and professionalism ensured that the individual responsible is being held accountable. Let this serve as a clear message, violent crime will not be tolerated in St. Lucie County, and we will pursue justice for victims and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Ms. Moncion during this difficult time.”

Jean remains in custody at the St. Lucie County Jail without bond, reflecting the severity of the charges he faces. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward. Residents are encouraged to contact the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 772-462-7300 or email [email protected].

While law enforcement officials continue to examine evidence and piece together the events that led to Moncion’s death, the case has already prompted strong statements from local leaders about the importance of accountability and public safety. Investigators say the presence of blood both inside and outside the semi-truck was a key factor in quickly elevating the investigation from a routine stop to a homicide case.

As details remain limited, community members are left with questions about what led to the fatal encounter, and authorities are working diligently to provide answers. The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office praised the coordinated efforts of patrol officers and detectives, highlighting how rapid response and investigative persistence contributed to Jean’s arrest and the ongoing effort to bring justice for Moncion and her family.

The case underscores the dangers and unpredictability surrounding reports of suspicious activity and serves as a reminder of the vigilance required by law enforcement in responding to calls for assistance. With the investigation continuing, officials are asking the public to remain alert and cooperative as they gather information that could help clarify the events leading up to the tragic incident.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to come forward, as the sheriff’s office emphasizes that even small details could be crucial to completing the investigation and supporting the prosecution of Olson Jean for the murder of Wendy Moncion. The St. Lucie County community remains focused on the ongoing pursuit of justice as investigators work to ensure accountability and closure for the victim’s family.
