Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport road rage incident ends with arrest of John William Morici

Broward County, Florida – Broward County authorities have made an arrest in connection to a road rage incident that occurred near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport late last month. John William Morici, 40, was taken into custody on May 15 after detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit linked him to the incident that unfolded on April 29.
The incident, which unfolded around 7 p.m. on Terminal Drive, began when a woman, who had just picked up her daughter from the airport, was trying to exit the area. According to investigators, the victim signaled to change lanes by turning on her left blinker. At that point, a black Dodge Durango sped up beside her, blocking her from safely switching lanes.
As the victim tried to maneuver, Morici’s vehicle continued to interfere, forcing her to slow down. Despite this, she managed to change lanes and ended up directly behind the Durango. However, the situation quickly escalated when the driver of the Durango braked suddenly, causing the victim to once again change lanes in an attempt to avoid a collision.

Things took a more dangerous turn when the victim, now behind the Durango, decided to pass the vehicle. As she did so, her daughter, who had been recording the incident on her phone, captured footage of the situation. The footage later made its way to the public, and it shows Morici pulling out a black handgun and pointing it directly at the victim and her daughter.
The situation defused momentarily when Morici noticed the phone recording the interaction. He quickly concealed the weapon and fled the scene, driving toward South Federal Highway. Despite the tense confrontation, no one was injured, and the victim promptly reported the incident to local authorities.
On Thursday, May 15, authorities were able to track down Morici, who voluntarily turned himself into the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail. Following his arrest, he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. The charge stems from his actions during the road rage encounter, where he used a firearm to intimidate the victims, although there was no direct attempt to kill them.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident, and it is unclear if further charges may be filed. However, the arrest of Morici has brought some relief to the victims involved, and authorities are applauding the quick response by both the public and law enforcement in helping to bring the case to a resolution.
The arrest also serves as a reminder of the dangers of road rage, especially in busy areas like those surrounding major transportation hubs. Authorities urge drivers to remain calm and avoid escalating confrontations while on the road.
