BCPS partners with Blue Spear Solutions to provide bleeding control training for all school staff

Broward County, Florida – Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) has officially announced a new districtwide safety initiative aimed at equipping all of its employees with critical emergency response skills. In a newly launched partnership with Blue Spear Solutions, more than 33,000 BCPS educators, staff, and administrators will receive online Bleeding Control Training over the next three years — at no cost to the district.

This move underscores the district’s ongoing commitment to safety and emergency readiness across all its schools. The training will teach school staff how to use the life-saving Stop the Bleed kits that are already present throughout campuses and district offices.

“We appreciate the partnership with Blue Spear Solutions that is bringing this essential, life-saving training to all of our employees,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “Ensuring everyone knows the proper way to use the critical tools contained in the kits can help save lives in an emergency.”

The training course, which takes about one hour to complete online, is closely modeled on the national Stop the Bleed campaign established by the American College of Surgeons. This campaign focuses on empowering everyday citizens — or in this case, school staff — to step in and take action when faced with life-threatening bleeding injuries, especially in the crucial minutes before professional help can arrive.

The course uses a mix of instructor-led videos, voice-over slide presentations, and interactive quizzes to teach the essentials. It’s designed to be engaging and straightforward, allowing every participant to feel confident in stepping up during a crisis — whether the incident happens in a classroom, cafeteria, hallway, or even outdoors during school events.

BCPS has been working consistently to improve safety protocols and preparedness following a growing national emphasis on emergency readiness in schools. This training is expected to build confidence and readiness across the workforce, preparing employees not just to react, but to lead in potentially life-or-death situations.

Blue Spear Solutions is also receiving strong support from a group of organizations that believe in the value of this initiative. Partners in the effort include AutoNation, CENTEGIX, SaferWatch, Lipton Toyota, Vaughn Sports Academy, Raptor Technologies, and Hudson Capital Group.

By bringing this training to every employee in one of the nation’s largest school districts, BCPS is helping set a new standard for school preparedness — one where everyone is ready to respond when seconds matter most.
