Greenspoon Marder attorney Barry Somerstein appointed as General Counsel for Nova Southeastern University

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – Greenspoon Marder is proud to announce that Barry Somerstein, a seasoned attorney with over four decades of legal expertise, has been appointed as the new General Counsel and Vice President for Legal Affairs at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). In this esteemed full-time position, Mr. Somerstein will oversee the Office for Legal Affairs at the university, providing critical legal services across a wide range of transactional matters affecting all academic and administrative units. His primary role will be to safeguard and advance the interests of NSU as it continues to flourish as a prominent educational institution.

Mr. Somerstein, who will officially begin his tenure at NSU on July 21, is no stranger to the university. His longstanding relationship with NSU includes serving on the Board of Trustees for the Shepard Broad College of Law and remaining an active member of NSU’s Ambassador’s Board. His deep involvement with the university has afforded him a profound understanding of its mission and operations, preparing him for the pivotal role of General Counsel.

Reflecting on his new role, Mr. Somerstein expressed his excitement and commitment, stating, “I am honored to join Nova Southeastern University as General Counsel and am deeply committed to contributing to the University’s continued success. My years at Greenspoon Marder have prepared me well for this new role, and I look forward to supporting NSU’s mission and vision.”

As part of this transition, Mr. Somerstein will also be shifting his position at Greenspoon Marder to “of counsel,” marking the conclusion of a remarkable 48-year tenure with the firm. Despite this shift, Mr. Somerstein will continue to maintain a close relationship with Greenspoon Marder, ensuring that his wealth of experience and knowledge remains available to the firm.
