Orlando, Florida – As part of its continuing mission to strengthen the voice of certified public accountants in the halls of government, the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) has honored two state lawmakers for their outstanding contributions to the profession during the 2025 Legislative Session. At the same time, the organization has announced the date for its signature annual advocacy event: CPA Day at the Capitol.

In a show of gratitude and recognition, the FICPA recently presented Representative Yvette Benarroch with the 2025 Legislative Leadership Award. The ceremony took place at the organization’s headquarters in Orlando, where Benarroch was welcomed as a guest of honor. Representing House District 81 in Collier County, she was recognized for her commitment to upholding the standards of the CPA license and for her role in supporting the profession during this year’s legislative session.

“This award recognizes Rep. Benarroch’s outstanding leadership during the 2025 Legislative Session and her commitment to preserving the integrity and value of the CPA license,” the FICPA stated. Her advocacy has helped reinforce the CPA profession’s standing within Florida’s legislative framework, particularly in matters of regulation and professional practice.

Just a few days later, the FICPA extended a second major honor to Representative Omar Blanco during the organization’s annual Scholarship Foundation Retreat in Key Largo. Blanco, who serves House District 115 in Miami-Dade County, received the 2025 Legislative Partnership Award. The award celebrates his collaborative spirit and active involvement with the FICPA throughout the legislative process.

“This award recognizes Rep. Blanco’s collaborative approach and his strong commitment to working alongside Florida’s CPAs,” the group announced. “Rep. Blanco proved to be an invaluable partner during the 2025 Legislative Session through his active engagement and support of the FICPA’s legislative priorities.”

These recognitions are part of an annual tradition by the FICPA to honor lawmakers who go above and beyond in their efforts to advocate for and protect Florida’s CPA community. The organization believes that building and maintaining strong partnerships with elected officials is essential for its long-term success in policy advocacy.

“These partnerships form the foundation for ongoing collaboration and help ensure that the voice of the CPA profession remains well-represented throughout the legislative process,” the FICPA emphasized.

Both Representative Benarroch and Representative Blanco are in their first terms in the Florida House, making their swift impact especially noteworthy. Their work reflects a growing awareness among lawmakers of the vital role CPAs play in Florida’s economic health, from ensuring accurate financial reporting to advising on tax policy and compliance.

In addition to celebrating legislative allies, the FICPA has also confirmed the date for its upcoming CPA Day at the Capitol. This important annual event brings together CPAs from across the state to meet with legislators, discuss policy issues, and highlight the profession’s role in serving the public. While the exact date was not included in the latest update, the announcement signals the beginning of preparations for another year of direct advocacy in Tallahassee.

The FICPA closed its announcement by extending sincere thanks to both lawmakers: “The FICPA extends its sincere appreciation to Reps. Benarroch and Blanco for their leadership, engagement and dedication during their first session. The FICPA is grateful for their commitment to the profession and the people of Florida, and we look forward to continued collaboration in the years ahead.”

As the legislative landscape continues to evolve, these partnerships help ensure that Florida’s CPAs remain a trusted voice in shaping policies that affect businesses, individuals, and the broader economy.
