Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale has officially lifted its precautionary advisory for recreational activity in the Mola Canal, bringing relief to residents and boaters who frequent the area. The decision comes after several days of testing showed that water quality has returned to safe levels.

The advisory was first put in place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, following a sewer overflow at Isle of Capri Drive and Mola Avenue. As a result, residents were asked to avoid activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing within the designated zone. The boundaries included Mola Avenue to the north, the New River to the south, Mola Avenue to the west, and Isle of Capri Drive to the east.

City officials explained that samples taken from the canal have now confirmed compliance with the State’s surface water quality standards. With the results in hand, the precautionary measures are no longer necessary, and the canal is considered safe for use.

“Water sampling in the affected area has demonstrated that the waterway meets the State’s surface water quality standards,” the City announced in its statement.

Residents seeking more details about the advisory or the city’s response can reach out directly to Fort Lauderdale’s Customer Service Center by calling 954-828-8000 or emailing [email protected].

The city is also encouraging community members to sign up for Alert FTL, a free emergency alert system that delivers critical updates by phone, text, or email. Officials say the program helps ensure that residents are notified quickly when issues like waterway advisories or severe weather events occur. Interested individuals can register online at www.fortlauderdale.gov/alertftl.

For now, the lifting of the advisory marks a return to normalcy along the Mola Canal. After several days of caution and uncertainty, boaters, anglers, and families can once again enjoy the waterway with peace of mind.
