Sixteen students from Pine Crest School’s Class of 2026 earn national merit semifinalist recognition for outstanding academic performance

Pine Crest, Florida – Pine Crest School is proud to announce that sixteen members of its Class of 2026 have earned the distinction of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, a recognition that highlights their exceptional academic achievements and dedication. This year’s honorees include Brennan Ayres, Jeffrey Berinstein, Rishi Chawla, Gisela Cortadellas, Brynn Edwards, Jake Jones, Lucia Lecour, Leon Merchel Czubek, Cosima Nicolo-Jones, Marcus Palombo, Matthew Pollok, Frederick Rosenthal, Elizabeth Strong, Clara Thomas, Maya Todorov, and Alexandra Winn.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is one of the nation’s most prestigious academic competitions, designed to recognize and reward outstanding high school students. Students become eligible for consideration by achieving high scores on the Preliminary SAT (PSAT) during their junior year. From there, the top performers are selected as semifinalists, earning the opportunity to advance to the next stage of the competition.
To move from semifinalist to finalist, students must submit a detailed application that includes a personal essay, their high school grades, a recommendation from their school, and official SAT or ACT scores. Finalists then become eligible for scholarships sponsored by private businesses, colleges, or the National Merit Scholarship Corporation itself. Scholarship recipients are typically announced the following summer, in this case, 2026, marking a milestone moment in the academic journeys of these talented young scholars.
Being named a National Merit Semifinalist is no small feat, reflecting a combination of academic rigor, consistent effort, and intellectual curiosity. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students,” said a Pine Crest spokesperson. “We are proud of each of these young scholars and look forward to supporting them as they pursue finalist status and beyond.”
For Pine Crest, the achievement of these sixteen students also underscores the school’s commitment to fostering a learning environment that challenges students to reach their full potential. In addition to excelling in academics, these students often participate in extracurricular activities, community service, and leadership programs, which contribute to the holistic development that the school prioritizes.
Families, teachers, and peers are celebrating the accomplishments of the Class of 2026, recognizing that these semifinalists represent the very best of Pine Crest’s academic community. As these students continue their journey toward becoming finalists and potentially earning scholarships, they also serve as inspiring examples for younger students who aspire to similar achievements.
The announcement of National Merit Semifinalists is more than just a personal honor; it is a reflection of Pine Crest School’s dedication to academic excellence and its ongoing mission to prepare students for success in higher education and beyond.
