Local not-for-profit organizations in Broward County to receive nine hundred twenty thousand dollars in law enforcement trust funds to support community programs

Broward County, Florida – Local not-for-profit organizations across Broward County are set to receive a major boost in funding aimed at enhancing community safety, supporting vulnerable populations, and promoting crime prevention initiatives. Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the dedicated men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) announced that $920,000 in Law Enforcement Trust Funds (LETF) will be awarded to local nonprofits this year.
The funding will benefit 92 programs, with 26 organizations celebrating their first-ever award, highlighting the growing reach of the LETF program. A ceremonial big check presentation is scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale, giving community members a chance to see firsthand the impact of these funds.
LETF dollars are generated through the seizure and forfeiture of contraband used in felony crimes. State law allows law enforcement agencies to reinvest these funds back into the community, creating a cyclical approach where resources taken from criminal activity directly support local programs and initiatives. Nonprofits with an active 501(c)(3) charitable status serving Broward County residents are eligible to apply for funding, which typically amounts to $10,000 per organization.
Sheriff Dr. Tony emphasized the importance of this funding in advancing both community safety and social initiatives. “These dollars allow us to partner with organizations that are making a real difference in Broward County. From crime prevention programs to initiatives addressing mental health and homelessness, these funds provide tangible support for programs that protect and uplift our residents,” he said.
The 2025–2026 recipients reflect a wide array of programs that align with statutory LETF requirements. These include initiatives focused on crime prevention, drug abuse education, neighborhood safety, and programs supporting youth diversion from the criminal justice system, reducing gun violence, and providing services for the homeless or those facing mental health challenges. The diverse group of recipients underscores BSO’s commitment to addressing complex community challenges through collaborative, targeted funding.
This year’s awards also shine a spotlight on newer organizations joining the program for the first time. Their inclusion signals the ongoing expansion of LETF’s reach and the willingness of BSO to support innovative approaches to public safety and community well-being. Through this partnership, local nonprofits gain critical resources that allow them to expand services, reach more residents, and implement programs that make a lasting impact.
The LETF program exemplifies how law enforcement can work hand-in-hand with local nonprofits to strengthen communities. By reinvesting funds seized from criminal activity into programs that prevent crime, educate residents, and support vulnerable populations, BSO ensures that the benefits of these dollars are felt broadly across Broward County.
Residents and community members interested in learning more about the LETF program or applying for future funding can reach out via [email protected] or visit the Broward Sheriff’s Office website. This year’s funding demonstrates a commitment to not only enforcing the law but also creating opportunities for local organizations to contribute to a safer, healthier, and more resilient community.
