Florida – Florida’s saltwater anglers have yet another reason to celebrate as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announces the Season 3 Triple Threat Throwdown winner of its popular Catch a Florida Memory program. Eric Peterson, a lifelong angler, has claimed the grand prize—a Kayak Fishing Bundle valued at over $4,500—capping off an exciting season of saltwater fishing, conservation, and friendly competition across the Sunshine State.

Peterson’s prize includes a Bonafide SKF117 kayak, a full Mustad fishing gear bundle, an extensive Yak Attack kayak accessory package, a Power-Pole Micro Spike Driver, and a variety of additional fishing accessories. The award is made possible thanks to the support of Catch a Florida Memory’s Season 3 Premier Partners: Bonafide, Yak Attack, Mustad, and Power-Pole, all of whom contributed to making the package a dream for any serious angler.

“I’m still in a bit of shock over this news,” Peterson said. “This is by far the biggest prize I’ve ever won. I can’t wait to see all the fun items that are part of this incredible package. So exciting!” His excitement reflects not only the value of the prize but also the deep personal connection Peterson has with Florida’s coastal waters, where he has spent countless hours fishing and exploring over the years.

A lifelong angler, Peterson has always valued both the thrill of the catch and the broader mission of conservation embedded in FWC’s programs. “Anyone who knows me knows fishing is one of my greatest passions,” he shared. “My Catch a Florida Memory achievements mean a great deal to me. To not only have these memories recognized and rewarded, but to have the opportunity for a new achievement that will accompany me on every Florida fishing trip to come… it’s by far the most rewarding fishing program I’ve ever been a part of.”

The Triple Threat Throwdown, a cornerstone of the Catch a Florida Memory program, challenges anglers who have achieved recognition across all three Catch a Florida Memory programs: Saltwater Grand Slams, Saltwater Reel Big Fish, and the Saltwater Life List. Each new recognition earned during the challenge period, which ran from March 1 through Sept. 7, counted as an entry into the grand prize drawing, giving participants multiple chances to win. The program encourages anglers to pursue a diversity of species while rewarding conservation-minded fishing practices.

Peterson’s journey through the program is also marked by his commitment to conservation and education. “I’ve never thought of a Florida fishing license as a fee… this is just part of my contribution back to this incredible natural resource,” he explained. His approach to fishing goes beyond personal accomplishment, emphasizing stewardship and passing on knowledge to future generations.

“Whether it’s gifting our youth their first rod and reel or helping someone in their 50s who had never caught a fish before… what better way than to introduce them to Catch a Florida Memory,” Peterson added, highlighting the joy of sharing his passion with others. His involvement in the program reflects the broader goals of FWC’s angler recognition programs, which aim to promote responsible fishing practices, conservation awareness, and education while celebrating anglers’ achievements.

Season 3 of the Triple Threat Throwdown has also drawn praise from Jessica McCawley, Director of FWC’s Division of Marine Fisheries Management, who noted the importance of recognizing anglers’ contributions to both conservation and community engagement. “Thank you to our Catch a Florida Memory participants for another great year,” McCawley said. “Season 3 of the Triple Threat Throwdown showcased our saltwater anglers’ commitment to conservation and protecting Florida’s fisheries for future generations. We are excited to see what the 2026 season has in store!”

Anglers interested in joining the Triple Threat Club can earn status year-round by meeting the program’s criteria. Membership provides exclusive rewards, including custom fishing apparel, prizing, and simplified entry into future Throwdown drawings. New participants can learn more and submit their catches through CatchaFloridaMemory.com. Additionally, following the program on Facebook, Fishbrain, and @MyFWC on social media allows anglers to celebrate achievements and stay updated on program developments.

The Catch a Florida Memory program emphasizes sustainable practices, encouraging anglers to use proper fish handling techniques and rewarding conservation-oriented efforts. By participating, anglers not only compete for prizes but also contribute to the protection of Florida’s fisheries and the education of future anglers. Purchases of fishing equipment, motorboat fuel, and fishing licenses further support aquatic education and outreach initiatives.

For Peterson, the Season 3 win represents both personal accomplishment and a chance to continue his lifelong connection with Florida’s waters in a more immersive way. With a fully equipped kayak and high-end fishing gear, he is ready to explore new fishing adventures while promoting conservation values and sharing his knowledge with others. “This program gives me the opportunity to make every trip more meaningful, more exciting, and more rewarding,” Peterson said.

As FWC looks ahead to Season 4, the Triple Threat Throwdown remains a celebration of Florida’s anglers, conservation efforts, and community engagement, ensuring that fishing enthusiasts across the state have the chance to create memories, hone their skills, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of Florida’s saltwater resources.

The program demonstrates how passion, conservation, and recognition can combine to inspire a new generation of anglers, while rewarding seasoned participants like Eric Peterson with experiences and tools that enhance their connection to Florida’s rich fishing heritage.
