Deerfield Beach, Florida – A tragic incident unfolded on Monday, October 27th, when a pedestrian was struck and killed in Deerfield Beach, authorities confirmed. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit (THI) is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, which occurred near the 100 block of Military Trail at approximately 11:58 a.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that Michael Baldwin, driving a 2016 Nissan Versa, was traveling northbound on Military Trail in the left thru lane as he approached Hillsboro Boulevard. Investigators say the pedestrian, who was not in a designated crosswalk, attempted to cross the roadway mid-block from east to west. The individual walked directly into the path of the vehicle, striking the passenger side and causing the pedestrian to fall to the ground.

Emergency responders from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and transported the pedestrian to Broward Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical intervention, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased on Tuesday, October 28th.

Detectives emphasized that driver impairment is not considered a factor in the crash. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine all contributing circumstances and ensure a thorough understanding of the events leading up to the fatal collision.

“This is a tragic loss,” a spokesperson from the Broward Sheriff’s Office said. “We urge all residents to use designated crosswalks and exercise caution when walking or driving. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.”

Mid-block pedestrian accidents remain a significant concern for traffic safety officials, who consistently advise pedestrians to cross only at marked crosswalks and intersections while remaining alert to oncoming traffic. Drivers are also encouraged to stay vigilant, especially in high-traffic areas, and anticipate pedestrians who may unexpectedly enter the roadway.

The investigation is ongoing, and THI detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Authorities have not released the name of the deceased pending family notification.

Residents and community members with any information related to the crash are encouraged to contact the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit. Officials hope that public awareness and cooperation can help prevent future tragedies in Deerfield Beach and surrounding areas.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed when pedestrians cross streets outside of designated areas. While authorities work to piece together the details of this crash, they stress the importance of vigilance, adherence to traffic laws, and community responsibility in maintaining safety for everyone on the roads.

No additional details regarding the pedestrian’s identity or age have been released. The Broward Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate and has asked anyone with video or eyewitness information to come forward to aid in the ongoing review of the incident.
