Hit-and-run caught on camera prompts BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives to urgently seek help from the public

Broward County, Florida – Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are asking for the public’s assistance after a disturbing late-night hit-and-run in Tamarac left a pedestrian critically injured and a driver fleeing the scene. The crash, which unfolded just before midnight on Saturday, Nov. 22, was caught on surveillance cameras and has become the center of an active investigation.

According to officials, the incident occurred at approximately 11:56 p.m. near the 5000 block of North State Road 7. The surveillance footage shows a man attempting to cross the southbound lanes of the roadway, stepping into traffic mid-block just north of Commercial Boulevard. As he moved across the left thru lane, a silver Toyota Camry traveling southbound struck him with the driver’s side front bumper in what detectives described as a sideswipe-type collision.

The impact caused the pedestrian to fall onto the pavement, where he remained lying between the left and center thru lanes. Moments later, before any drivers could stop to help, another vehicle approached—an unidentified black sedan. The sedan drove over the man and continued traveling southbound without stopping. Detectives noted that the driver of this second vehicle has not yet been identified.

Other motorists soon noticed the injured pedestrian and pulled over to assist. Meanwhile, cameras recorded the first driver—the one operating the silver Toyota Camry—pulling into the parking lot of a nearby Shell gas station. The footage shows the driver exiting the vehicle and walking back toward the area where the pedestrian had come to rest.

According to investigators, the driver lingered briefly on the sidewalk along the west side of the roadway while bystanders attempted to help the victim. After observing the scene, he returned to his Toyota and drove away, continuing southbound on North State Road 7. Detectives say the act of leaving without speaking to authorities or rendering aid has made identifying him a top priority.

Tamarac Fire Rescue arrived shortly after the crash and transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital. As of the latest update, he remains in critical condition.

Investigators provided a detailed description of the vehicle involved in the initial collision. They believe it is a 2002–2006 silver Toyota Camry, likely showing minor damage to the front bumper on the driver’s side. The car is also missing the passenger-side front hubcap. Detectives describe the driver as possibly an adult male who was wearing dark Bermuda shorts and a light sleeveless shirt at the time of the crash.

Authorities are urging anyone with information—no matter how small it may seem—to come forward. Witness accounts, dash-camera footage, or tips about a matching vehicle could play a critical role in identifying the driver and determining the full circumstances of the incident.

As stated by officials, “Investigators are asking anyone with information on the hit-and-run, the driver’s identity, or the vehicle’s tag or location to contact BSO THI Detective M. Wiley at 954-321-4841 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch App. If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.”

Detectives emphasize that community assistance is often crucial in cases like this, where the responsible driver fled in the moments after the crash. They hope that someone who saw the vehicle, recognized the driver, or noticed new damage on a silver Camry in recent days will come forward.

For now, the investigation remains active, and officials stress that every tip will be treated with urgency.
