City of Sunrise shares holiday wishes and announces special hours of operation for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations
City of Sunrise, Florida – As the winter holiday season approaches, the City of Sunrise is extending warm wishes to residents while also sharing important information about changes to city services and facility hours around Christmas and New Year’s. City officials say the adjusted schedule is designed to give employees and residents time to celebrate safely while maintaining access to many popular public amenities.
“The City of Sunrise wishes you a safe, healthy and happy winter holiday season!”
Along with those well-wishes, city leaders reminded the community that several municipal offices and facilities will be closed on key holidays. City of Sunrise administrative offices, the Sunrise Senior Center, Signature Sunrise, and the Theatre Box Office will be closed on Thursday, December 25, and Thursday, January 1, in observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
While some buildings will be closed entirely, many recreational and community facilities will operate on modified schedules to accommodate residents looking to stay active or spend time outdoors during the holidays.
City parks will remain open on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, operating from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, parks will be open slightly earlier, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., giving families and visitors extra time to enjoy green spaces before holiday celebrations begin.
The Civic Center Athletic Club will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. However, residents who plan to work out before festivities can visit the club on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when it will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Swimming schedules will also be adjusted. The Civic Center Aquatics Complex will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day but will welcome swimmers on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
For those planning to purchase tickets or handle box office needs, the Civic Center Theatre Box Office will be closed on both major holidays. It will be open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Senior residents are encouraged to take note of changes at the Sunrise Senior Center. The center will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but will operate on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Golfers will find a mix of closures and open hours at The Bridges at Springtree Golf Club. On Christmas Day, the restaurant will be closed, but the course itself will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The facility will operate on regular hours on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.
Tennis players should plan ahead as well. The Sunrise Tennis Club will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the club will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Additional community spaces, including the SAC Multipurpose Center and the Village Multipurpose Center, will follow similar schedules. Both facilities will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Sanitation services will largely continue without interruption throughout the holiday period. Garbage, recycling, and bulk trash collection will operate as regularly scheduled on all days except Christmas Day, when there will be no collection service. Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly to avoid missed pickups.
For those disposing of Christmas trees or other large holiday items, the city has provided clear guidance. Sunrise residents may place qualifying bulk items curbside on their next scheduled bulk trash collection day following Christmas. Details about acceptable items and collection schedules are available through the city’s bulk trash resources.
Christmas trees can also be recycled at Markham Park, located at 16001 West State Road 84, between December 26 and January 19. The seasonal recycling option offers residents an environmentally friendly way to dispose of trees after the holidays. Additional information about Broward County’s tree recycling program is available through county resources.
City officials expressed appreciation for residents’ cooperation during the holiday schedule changes. They emphasized that the modified hours are intended to balance service availability with the opportunity for city employees, residents, and local businesses to enjoy time with family and friends.
“We thank the community for observing these special hours of operation so City of Sunrise employees, residents, and businesses all have an opportunity to celebrate the winter holiday season while also enjoying their favorite City facilities and amenities.”
Residents seeking more information are encouraged to review the full list of City of Sunrise holidays and service updates to stay informed. City leaders say planning ahead will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable holiday season for everyone.
As the year comes to a close, the City of Sunrise continues to encourage residents to celebrate responsibly, look out for one another, and take advantage of the city’s parks and amenities when they are open. With a combination of closures, reduced hours, and continued services, the city aims to support both holiday traditions and everyday needs throughout the season.
