Master developer launches RFP process to advance Phase I infrastructure for new Downtown Pompano project
Pompano Beach, Florida – A significant step forward is underway in Pompano Beach, where plans for a reimagined downtown are beginning to move from vision to reality. The project’s master developer, RP Pompano LLC, has officially issued a Request for Proposals, opening the door for construction firms to take part in what is expected to become a defining transformation for the city’s core.
Working in collaboration with the City of Pompano Beach and the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the developer is seeking qualified contractors to lead Phase I of the infrastructure buildout. The announcement marks an early but crucial milestone in a broader redevelopment effort aimed at reshaping the downtown area into a more active and connected destination.
At its heart, this initial phase is less about what people will immediately see and more about what will make everything else possible. The selected contractor will be tasked with delivering the foundational work that supports future growth—everything from clearing and grading the land to installing utilities and managing stormwater systems. Roads, sidewalks, landscaping, and lighting will also take shape during this stage, quietly setting the groundwork for what officials hope will become a thriving center of activity.
Though the process is technical in nature, the implications are far-reaching. Infrastructure projects like this often operate behind the scenes, yet they determine how spaces function for decades. In this case, the work is expected to support not only new development but also a broader vision that blends public services, economic opportunity, and community life into one cohesive environment.
To ensure the project meets regulatory and professional standards, strict requirements have been set for interested firms. Contractors must hold a valid Florida Underground Utility and Excavation Contractor License or a State of Florida General Contracting License. These criteria reflect the scale and complexity of the undertaking, where precision and experience will be essential from the very beginning.
The timeline is equally clear. Proposals must be submitted electronically by 5:00 p.m. EST on May 18, 2026. Submissions arriving after that deadline will not be considered, reinforcing the structured and competitive nature of the selection process.
Beyond the primary contract, there is also an open invitation for local participation. Smaller contractors and businesses interested in contributing as subcontractors are encouraged to register their interest through an online participation form. This approach signals an effort to involve the local workforce and ensure that the benefits of the project extend into the surrounding community.
While construction has yet to begin, the issuance of the RFP represents a turning point. It shifts the conversation from planning to action, from drawings and discussions to the early stages of physical change. For residents and stakeholders, it is the first tangible sign that the long-anticipated downtown transformation is starting to take shape.
As proposals begin to come in and decisions are made, attention will gradually shift toward what comes next—machines on site, crews at work, and the slow but steady emergence of a new urban landscape. For now, however, the focus remains on laying a solid foundation, both literally and figuratively, for a downtown that aims to serve as a hub of connection, growth, and everyday life in Pompano Beach.
