Broward County, Florida – Broward County officials are preparing to conduct targeted aerial mosquito spraying over several communities next week as part of ongoing efforts to reduce nuisance mosquito activity linked to seasonal environmental conditions and increased public complaints.

The Broward County Mosquito Control Section, operating under the Public Works and Environmental Services Department, announced that the operation is scheduled for the nights of Saturday, June 6, and Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The aerial mission will focus on areas including Davie, Southwest Ranches, Pembroke Pines, Miramar, and Weston. Officials noted that the exact timing may shift depending on weather conditions or other unforeseen factors.

Spraying is planned to take place overnight between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., a window selected to minimize exposure to residents and reduce disruption to daily activity. County teams will use aircraft to apply adult mosquito control treatments over selected zones identified through surveillance data and service requests.

According to county officials, the operation is a response to a noticeable increase in service calls, combined with field monitoring that indicates a rise in adult mosquito populations. The mosquitoes being targeted are primarily saltmarsh species migrating from the Everglades. These insects are known for their strong flying ability and aggressive biting behavior, often traveling long distances from their breeding areas in search of food sources.

While officials emphasized that these mosquitoes are not known to transmit diseases such as Zika or Dengue, they are still considered a major nuisance for residents, particularly during peak activity periods. The aerial spraying is intended to quickly reduce adult mosquito numbers in affected neighborhoods and provide relief to communities experiencing high levels of biting activity.

County health and environmental experts continue to stress that mosquito control is a multi-layered effort. Aerial spraying is one of several tools used across Broward County, alongside truck-based and backpack treatments that target different stages of mosquito development in various environments.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to take simple precautions during the spraying hours. Those with breathing difficulties are encouraged to remain indoors while operations are underway. In addition, individuals who are registered with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as chemically sensitive will receive advance notification before the spraying takes place.

Officials also reminded the public that community participation plays an important role in reducing mosquito populations. Standing water around homes remains one of the most common breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and residents are encouraged to regularly inspect yards, gutters, and outdoor containers to eliminate stagnant water.

The Broward Mosquito Control Section continues to encourage residents to report mosquito issues and request assistance when needed. Service requests can be submitted by calling 311 or by completing the county’s Mosquito Service Request Form online.

As summer conditions continue and mosquito activity fluctuates, county officials say they will keep monitoring the situation closely and respond with additional control measures if necessary. The upcoming aerial operation is part of that ongoing strategy to manage mosquito populations while balancing environmental conditions and public comfort across Broward County.
