Plantation Utilities reassures residents about drinking water safety and explains how regular testing ensures quality standards
Plantation, Florida – The City of Plantation Utilities Department is reminding residents that their drinking water remains safe, reliable, and regularly tested after officials became aware of claims being made by some companies selling home water filtration systems.
According to the city, certain companies have recently contacted residents or shared information suggesting concerns about the quality of the drinking water provided by Plantation’s public water system. Officials responded by assuring customers that the city’s water treatment facilities continue to operate in full compliance with all required drinking water regulations.
Plantation Utilities emphasized that water supplied to residents is carefully monitored through a detailed testing process designed to ensure it meets or exceeds state and federal safety requirements. The city said its treatment plants follow standards established by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
To maintain those standards, water samples are collected at the treatment facilities every two hours. Additional samples are also taken regularly throughout the city’s water distribution system to monitor conditions after water leaves the treatment plants and travels through the network of pipes serving homes and businesses.

The collected samples are analyzed by licensed utility operators as well as state-certified laboratory professionals. Officials said this ongoing testing program helps confirm that the water delivered to customers remains within required safety limits.
The city also warned residents to be cautious when reviewing results from private water tests conducted inside individual homes. Officials explained that samples taken by private companies may not accurately represent the quality of water provided by the public water system because those results can be affected by factors inside a property.
A home’s internal plumbing, fixtures, or privately installed filtration equipment can influence water samples collected at a specific location. As a result, a test performed inside a home may reflect conditions within that individual property rather than the overall quality of water supplied by Plantation Utilities.
City officials said the goal is to provide residents with accurate information and prevent confusion caused by outside claims or sales tactics involving water treatment products.
Plantation remains committed to maintaining a dependable drinking water system and ensuring that residents have access to clean water that complies with all regulatory requirements.

The Utilities Department is also encouraging residents with questions or concerns to reach out directly rather than relying on information provided by private companies selling water filtration systems.
