Hammonton native and Army veteran Bart DiGuglielmo killed in Florida Walmart parking lot shooting dispute

Tallahassee, Florida – A New Jersey native and U.S. Army veteran was killed in a shooting outside a Walmart in North Lauderdale, Florida, after an argument over a parking spot turned deadly. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and no charges have been filed as officials review the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The victim was identified as Bart DiGuglielmo, 62, of Hammonton, New Jersey. According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, in a Walmart parking lot in North Lauderdale.

Investigators said DiGuglielmo was shot once during the confrontation and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The shooting has drawn attention because it began with what authorities described as a dispute over a parking space before escalating into a fatal encounter.

The person who fired the shot, an adult woman wearing a white shirt, has not been publicly identified. According to investigators, she remained at the scene following the shooting and told detectives that she acted in self-defense.

Broward County homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident. Authorities said the case will be reviewed by the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, which will ultimately determine whether criminal charges will be filed against the woman involved.

Beyond the investigation, friends and family are remembering DiGuglielmo as a dedicated veteran, healthcare worker, and family member who spent much of his life serving others.

DiGuglielmo grew up in Hammonton, New Jersey, and served more than 16 years in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of staff sergeant, according to information shared on his Facebook page. During his military career, he served in Operation Desert Storm, a conflict that began in 1990 as part of the U.S.-led response to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.

After leaving the military, DiGuglielmo continued a career focused on helping people. His sister told CBS News Miami that he worked as a nurse for more than 30 years, continuing his commitment to caring for others.

“He was a Christian man and a very good person,” his sister said while remembering him.
Family members also described DiGuglielmo as someone who enjoyed following sports. He was a fan of Philadelphia professional teams and Ohio State athletics, interests that reflected his strong personal connections and passions outside of his work and military service.

The investigation into the North Lauderdale shooting remains ongoing as authorities examine witness statements and evidence collected from the scene. Officials have not announced a timeline for when the State Attorney’s Office will make a decision regarding possible charges.
For DiGuglielmo’s family and those who knew him, the incident has left behind the loss of a man remembered for his military service, dedication to his profession, and the relationships he built throughout his life.
