Broward County, Florida – Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is celebrating the academic achievements of three additional students who have earned 2026 National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarships, recognizing their outstanding performance in the classroom, leadership abilities and promise for future success.

The latest scholarship recipients represent two BCPS high schools and have been honored for reaching one of the highest levels of academic recognition available through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Their accomplishments highlight the dedication, hard work and preparation that have helped them stand out among thousands of students nationwide.

The newest BCPS National Merit College-Sponsored Scholarship winners are Kaia Jane from Cypress Bay High School, who received the National Merit University of Central Florida Scholarship; Andy Wu, also from Cypress Bay High School, who received the National Merit University of Florida Scholarship; and Gabriel Garcia from Plantation High School, who earned the National Merit University of Central Florida Scholarship.

The students were selected through a competitive process that recognizes National Merit finalists who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and have been accepted to the sponsoring college or university. To receive a College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship, finalists must identify the sponsoring institution as their first-choice college.

These scholarships are funded directly by colleges and universities to support talented students as they continue their education. Award amounts range from $500 to $2,000 per year and may be provided for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution that finances the scholarship.

BCPS leaders praised the students for their achievements and said their success reflects the strength of academic programs throughout the district.

“We congratulate these remarkable students on this well-deserved achievement,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “Their dedication to academic excellence and pursuit of higher education exemplify the outstanding talent found throughout Broward County Public Schools. We are proud of their accomplishments and wish them continued success as they begin the next chapter of their educational journey.”

The recognition adds to a growing list of accomplishments by BCPS students who continue to earn national attention for academic excellence. District officials said these scholarship awards demonstrate the impact of strong preparation, commitment from educators and the determination of students working toward their goals.

For the three scholarship recipients, the honor represents more than an academic award. It marks an important step as they prepare to enter college and continue developing their skills, interests and future career paths.

Through academic support, college readiness programs and opportunities for advanced learning, the district continues working to help students reach their goals in college, careers and life.
