Fort Lauderdale begins Andrews Avenue Asphalt Improvement Project to improve roadway conditions in Flagler Village area
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale is moving forward with an asphalt improvement project designed to improve road conditions along a portion of N. Andrews Avenue in the Flagler Village area. The work, being completed in partnership with FG Construction, will focus on resurfacing several sections of the roadway while adding updated pavement markings.
The project will take place between NW/NE 4th Street, NW/NE 5th Street, and NW/NE 6th Street, targeting areas where roadway improvements are needed to maintain safer and smoother travel conditions for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Construction crews are scheduled to work overnight on Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23, 2026. Work hours will run from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., with the project expected to conclude Friday morning, July 24. City officials noted that the schedule could change depending on weather conditions or other unexpected circumstances that may affect construction activities.
The overnight schedule was selected to help reduce disruptions during peak daytime travel hours. However, residents and businesses near the project area should prepare for temporary impacts while crews complete the resurfacing work.
The improvements will include milling and resurfacing the existing asphalt surface, a process that removes damaged pavement before new asphalt is installed. Once the resurfacing is completed, crews will apply new pavement markings to help improve roadway visibility and organization.
Residents in the surrounding area are advised that some temporary construction-related conditions should be expected during the overnight work period. Heavy machinery, construction equipment, and backup safety alarms may create intermittent noise throughout the project. Temporary lighting will also be used to safely illuminate the work area while crews operate during nighttime hours.
The city is asking drivers, pedestrians, and nearby residents to pay attention to posted signs and use caution while traveling through the construction zone. Safety measures will remain in place throughout the project to protect both workers and the public.
Traffic and parking changes will also be implemented during construction. One lane in each direction of N. Andrews Avenue will be closed between NW/NE 4th Street and NW/NE 6th Street while crews complete the resurfacing work.
Residents are also asked not to park along N. Andrews Avenue within the active construction area during the scheduled work periods. The temporary parking restrictions will allow crews to safely access the roadway and complete the improvements more efficiently.
Driveway access will generally remain available throughout the project. However, if resurfacing activities take place directly in front of a driveway, construction crews will coordinate with affected property owners or residents ahead of time to manage access.
City officials said they understand construction can create temporary inconveniences for the surrounding community and thanked residents for their patience and cooperation during the improvement project.
The Andrews Avenue Asphalt Improvement Project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance local infrastructure, ensuring that roadways remain functional, safe, and accessible for everyone who uses them.
