Pompano Beach selects Suffolk to build new City Hall and parking garage

Pompano Beach, Florida – The City of Pompano Beach is moving forward with one of its most significant downtown projects after selecting Suffolk, a nationally recognized construction company, to build the city’s new City Hall and Parking Garage. The project will serve as a major foundation for the transformation of the city’s New Downtown area and will also launch a major local hiring and business participation effort.

The announcement was made by the City of Pompano Beach, the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and master developer RocaPoint Partners through RP Pompano, LLC. Officials said the new civic facilities will become the anchor of a larger $2 billion mixed-use development expected to reshape the downtown area with millions of square feet of new retail, residential, office, hotel, and civic space.

The broader development is projected to create significant economic benefits for the community, including more than $40 million in annual local tax revenue, approximately 3,080 recurring jobs, and 5,752 construction jobs. City leaders said the selection of Suffolk represents an important step toward turning the long-planned downtown vision into reality.

Following a competitive review process, Suffolk was chosen based on its pricing, more than four decades of construction experience, and commitment to involving local subcontractors, vendors, and workers throughout the project.

A national builder with a strong presence in South Florida, Suffolk will lead construction under the direction of Kyle Goebel, Suffolk Vice President of Operations, along with a dedicated regional project team. Company officials said the project will combine Suffolk’s national construction experience, advanced safety practices, and local partnerships to deliver a modern civic destination for residents and visitors.

The new City Hall will include administrative offices and public service areas, while the accompanying parking garage will support the growing downtown district. However, officials emphasized that the project is about more than buildings. It is also focused on creating economic opportunities for local businesses, skilled workers, and residents who want to take part in the construction process.

To help connect the community with these opportunities, Suffolk, the City of Pompano Beach, the CRA, and RocaPoint Partners will host two community job fairs in August. The events are designed to introduce residents, subcontractors, vendors, and construction professionals to the project team and explain how they can participate.

Both job fairs will provide the same information but will be held at different times to make attendance easier for community members with different schedules.

The first session will take place on Wednesday, August 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the E. Pat Larkins Community Center, located at 520 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The second session is scheduled for Thursday, August 20, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Emma Lou Olson Center, located at 1801 NE 6th Street.

During the meetings, attendees will have the opportunity to meet members of the project team, learn about Suffolk’s procurement process, and receive information about upcoming bid opportunities, trade prequalification requirements, and workforce openings.

Local businesses and construction professionals are encouraged to bring materials that highlight their experience and qualifications, including resumes, trade licenses, certifications, service information, and capability statements.

The effort is part of Suffolk’s broader commitment to creating long-term partnerships with the local business community. Beyond the initial job fairs, the company plans to hold a follow-up networking event aimed at connecting subcontractors with local construction crews and helping companies better understand qualification requirements, including insurance needs and contracting procedures.

City officials said the goal is to make sure local businesses and workers have access to opportunities created by this major investment in Pompano Beach’s future.
