Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission invites anglers to enjoy a license-free freshwater fishing weekend in April

Florida – Fishing enthusiasts across Florida are in for a treat as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) hosts a license-free freshwater fishing weekend on April 5 and 6. This special event allows both residents and visitors to experience Florida’s abundant freshwater fishing opportunities without needing a fishing license.
Whether you prefer casting your line from the shore, a dock, or a boat, Florida offers countless spots to enjoy a peaceful day on the water. Anglers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to take part, making it a perfect weekend for families, friends, and solo adventurers alike. However, while fishing licenses won’t be required, all other regulations—including bag limits, size limits, and seasonal restrictions—will still apply.
For those new to fishing or looking for a quick refresher, FWC’s fishing basics webpage provides helpful tips and information on getting started. And for those who enjoy the sport, renewing or purchasing a fishing license for future trips can be done easily at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.
Family-Friendly Fishing Events
To make the weekend even more exciting, FWC has organized two special family fishing events on April 5, where young anglers can enjoy a hands-on experience along with extra activities.

This event offers a fun-filled day of fishing and outdoor activities. Pre-registration is required and must be completed by 5 p.m. on April 4 by calling 863-648-3200. Young participants can take part in a casting contest, meet exhibitors, and enjoy a free lunch provided by Publix
Supermarkets and the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida. Bait, as well as a limited number of rods and reels, will be available at no cost for children 15 and under. A parent or guardian must accompany all youth participants.
Florida Bass Conservation Center (Webster, FL)
-3583 County Road 788, Webster, FL 33597
April 5, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This event welcomes families to bring their own fishing gear and bait for a great day by the water. Vital Fleet Services will provide a free lunch, featuring hot dogs and hamburgers for all attendees.
Discover More Fishing Adventures
For those looking to expand their fishing experiences, FWC’s website, MyFWC.com, is a great resource to find freshwater and saltwater fishing locations, nearby boat ramps, and fishing piers. Additionally, fishing enthusiasts can participate in TrophyCatch, FWC’s bass fishing recognition program, where anglers who catch a largemouth bass weighing eight pounds or more can submit their catch to win prizes.
Plan for More License-Free Fishing Weekends
If you can’t make it this time or want another chance to fish without a license, mark your calendar for the next license-free freshwater fishing weekend on June 8 and 9. It’s another opportunity to enjoy Florida’s great outdoors and make unforgettable memories on the water.
