Town of Davie to begin first phase of school zone speed safety program with speed cameras going live on March 17

Davie, Florida – The Town of Davie is taking a significant step toward improving the safety of students, residents, and school staff with the launch of its School Zone Speed Safety Program. Starting March 17, 2025, the first phase of this program will activate two speed cameras in critical school zones, aiming to curb speeding and enhance safety around schools. The speed cameras will operate at two key locations: the eastbound lane on SW 30th Street at Nova Southeastern University and University School, and the northbound lane on SW 133rd Avenue at Flamingo Elementary and Western High School.

During this time, drivers who exceed the speed limit near the school zones will receive a warning notice in the mail. After the warning period, which ends on April 16, 2025, the cameras will begin issuing citations to any drivers caught speeding. Fines of $100 will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle, with payment due within 30 days. This change is intended to encourage drivers to follow the speed limits and exercise caution around schools, helping to prevent accidents and protect the children and staff in these areas.
