Broward County, Florida – In a remarkable display of academic excellence, the Pre-Law students from Nova Middle School have achieved an unprecedented three-peat victory at the national “We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution” competition, held from April 25-26, 2025, in Washington, D.C. This extraordinary accomplishment marks the third consecutive year that Nova Middle School has secured the national championship, solidifying their place as one of the most dominant teams in the history of the prestigious civic education competition.

The path to this historic achievement began earlier in the year when the team triumphed at the state “We the People” competition in January 2025. Their first-place finish at the state level paved the way for another opportunity to compete on the national stage, and they approached the challenge with the same passion and determination that had already fueled their previous successes. For Nova Middle School, this victory is more than just a championship; it’s a testament to the power of dedication, collaboration, and a deep understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the principles of democracy.

The success of the Nova Middle School team can be largely attributed to the guidance of their teacher and coach, Kristin Murphy, and her husband Will Murphy, a fellow lawyer and coach. Together, they have created a dynamic learning environment that fosters both academic rigor and intellectual curiosity. Their innovative approach to preparing the students was evident when they turned a 22-hour train journey to Washington, D.C. into an intensive study session. Instead of using the long journey as a break, the Murphys used it as an opportunity for focused discussion and collaboration, setting the stage for the students’ stellar performance at the competition.

“The intensity and collaborative spirit forged during our train journey are instrumental in our team’s success,” said Kristin Murphy. “This three-peat is a testament to their extraordinary dedication and intellectual firepower. We couldn’t be prouder of these remarkable students.” The long hours spent reviewing materials, discussing constitutional issues, and honing their arguments undoubtedly played a key role in the team’s ability to rise to the top once again.

Beyond the rigorous preparation and competition itself, the students also had the chance to immerse themselves in the rich history of the nation as part of their journey to Washington, D.C. During their travels, the team toured several iconic historical locations, including Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, Monticello, the Capitol, and the National Archives. These experiences provided the students with a deeper connection to the nation’s founding principles, reinforcing their knowledge and understanding of the very concepts they would later debate and defend in the competition.

This three-peat victory serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of civic education and the role that young people play in shaping the future of the nation. The students of Nova Middle School have demonstrated that with hard work, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine passion for learning, extraordinary achievements are possible. Their victory is not just a personal accomplishment, but a symbol of the lasting impact that a well-rounded education can have on the lives of students and the communities they will go on to serve.

As Nova Middle School celebrates this historic win, their achievement will undoubtedly inspire future generations of students to engage with their civic duties and better understand the core values upon which the United States was founded. For Nova Middle School, the journey doesn’t end here. As they look ahead to the future, this incredible accomplishment stands as a lasting reminder of their commitment to excellence in education and the power of perseverance.

This remarkable achievement is not only a reflection of the students’ hard work, but also the dedication and leadership of their teachers. The team’s success is proof that when educators create a supportive, challenging, and inspiring environment, students can excel beyond expectations. The legacy of Nova Middle School’s three-peat victory at the “We the People” competition will surely echo in the years to come, leaving an indelible mark on both the students involved and the community they represent.
