Broward County, Florida – Students, teachers, families, and tech enthusiasts will gather on Saturday, May 17, at Pines Middle School in Pembroke Pines, Florida, for a special celebration of creativity, learning, and innovation. The Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Applied Learning Department is hosting the third annual Computer Science (CS) Inclusion Showcase — a one-of-a-kind event that brings the spotlight to students with disabilities and their achievements in computer science and STEM.

Running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event is expected to draw a wide range of participants, including students, educators, local officials, and experts in the field of robotics. Representatives from the University of Florida — one of the event’s key partners — will be present to support and inspire young learners. The CS Inclusion Showcase is also made possible through the generous support of Google and the National Science Foundation.

This interactive event will allow students to demonstrate their work and explore hands-on activities that combine fun with learning. Projects will focus on how students with disabilities are engaging with computer science, an area often seen as challenging but increasingly inclusive thanks to evolving tools and teaching methods.

“Computer science is a driving force behind almost everything we do in the modern-day world,” the organizers noted. The goal of the showcase is not only to recognize student progress but also to plant the seeds for future careers in computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

Students will have the opportunity to connect directly with professionals in the field, including robotics experts, to learn more about what’s possible in today’s tech-driven workforce. The emphasis will be on how computer science is for everyone — and how inclusive education practices are helping open doors that may have once been closed.

The event is organized through the BCPS Applied Learning Department’s STEM + CS Programs, which have been actively working to break down barriers and build opportunities for all learners.

By creating space for students with disabilities to showcase their talents, the CS Inclusion Showcase is sending a powerful message: with the right support and the right mindset, there are no limits to what any student can achieve in computer science.

The showcase is free and open to the public. Pines Middle School is located at 200 N.W. Douglas Road in Pembroke Pines. For more information, contact the BCPS Applied Learning Department.
