Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale has announced a new initiative aimed at enhancing the safety and appearance of NE 4th Avenue. Beginning the week of August 4, 2025, the city will work with R&D Electric, Inc. to install new pedestrian lighting along NE 4th Avenue, stretching from Sunrise Boulevard to NE 13th Street. This initiative is part of the larger Community Redevelopment Agency’s Streetscape project, which also focuses on improving sidewalks and landscaping in the area.

The pedestrian lighting installation will involve the placement of 11 concrete light poles, each equipped with pedestrian-friendly light fixtures. This upgrade aims to improve the visibility and safety of pedestrians, especially during the evening and nighttime hours, while also contributing to the aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood. The improvements are expected to not only make the area more secure for those walking but also enhance the overall experience of those using NE 4th Avenue as a thoroughfare.

Construction is scheduled to begin on August 4, 2025, and is expected to wrap up by mid-October of the same year. Work will take place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., though this schedule may change due to unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather. The city has asked for the public’s patience and understanding as the project progresses, and assures that the necessary steps will be taken to minimize disruptions.

While the installation of new lighting will improve the area, the city has also outlined traffic impacts during the construction period. Despite the construction, access to residences and businesses along NE 4th Avenue will be maintained at all times. Drivers are asked to follow posted signs and drive with caution when traveling through the work zone. The safety of pedestrians and drivers alike remains a top priority, and the city is committed to making the process as smooth as possible for everyone involved.

For residents, business owners, or anyone with questions about the project, several points of contact have been provided. MacKendy Philippi, Project Manager II for Transportation and Mobility, is available at 954-828-3707 or via email at [email protected]. Additionally, Kristin Thompson, Acting Deputy Director for Transportation and Mobility, can be reached at 954-828-3721 or [email protected]. The lighting installation is just one part of a broader effort to improve public spaces in Fort Lauderdale. Through projects like these, the city hopes to create a more walkable, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing environment for both residents and visitors. The ongoing improvements reflect a commitment to revitalizing key areas of the city, with a focus on safety, functionality, and community engagement. As the project progresses, the city encourages residents to stay informed and involved to ensure the successful completion of these important upgrades.
