Davie, Florida – The City of Sunrise is set to begin an extensive water main improvement project along SW 121st Avenue starting Monday, August 18, 2025. The project, expected to be completed by Summer 2026, aims to replace and upgrade water service lines to ensure a more reliable and efficient underground water distribution system for local residents.

The work will be carried out by Murphy Pipelines Contractors, LLC and will cover the section of SW 121st Avenue between SW 36th Court and SW 14th Street. Officials have noted that water lines run through the grassy right-of-way areas, which will be a focus during the construction phase.

Residents living in and around the project area should anticipate temporary disruptions. “Construction crews will implement partial and short-term lane closures while work is underway,” city officials stated. The closures are designed to maintain traffic flow while allowing crews to safely complete the installation of new water mains and service connections.

In addition to traffic adjustments, construction noise is expected throughout the day. City representatives noted that equipment necessary for the installation of new pipelines and service lines may generate noticeable sound in the surrounding areas. All work will occur during daytime hours to minimize disturbances during the evening and night.

City officials are encouraging residents to plan for slight delays and exercise caution when traveling through the project zone. Signage and safety barriers will be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians safely around active construction areas.

For more information about the project or to report concerns, the City of Sunrise Utilities Department, Capital Projects Division, can be reached at 954-572-2490. After-hours emergencies should be directed to 954-888-6087, selecting option 1. Media inquiries can be directed to Leona Henry, Development Administrator, at 954-797-1035, or to the city’s public relations team, including Ariana Briceño at 954-797-1190 and Camryn Tippetts at 954-797-1102.

The water main improvement initiative reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and dependable utility infrastructure. By upgrading aging lines and improving water distribution networks, Sunrise aims to enhance service reliability and minimize future disruptions for residents. City leaders emphasized that while temporary inconveniences may occur, the long-term benefits will be significant, ensuring a stronger, more resilient water system for the community.

Residents are advised to stay informed about construction updates and lane closures through official city channels and to allow extra travel time while navigating SW 121st Avenue during the project’s duration.
