Florida man sentenced to 25 years in prison for planning violent attacks targeting Jewish and Black Americans

Florida – A Florida man has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison after authorities uncovered an extensive plot targeting Jewish and Black Americans. John Kevin Lapinski Jr., 41, of Margate, previously pleaded guilty to a series of weapons-related charges, and prosecutors say his plans went far beyond illegal possession.

According to the Department of Justice, Lapinski admitted to being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a firearm while subject to a court order, owning an unregistered silencer, and possessing body armor as a violent felon. The case came to light after a late-night incident on October 31, 2024, when Margate Police Department officers responded to shots fired in a local neighborhood. Inside Lapinski’s residence, officers discovered a shooting target depicting a Black man covered in bullet holes, raising immediate concerns about the scope of his intentions.

Investigators conducted a thorough search of Lapinski’s home and uncovered an arsenal that authorities described as “highly concerning.” The collection included five firearms, 3,000 rounds of ammunition, firearm parts and accessories, two silencers, body armor, smoke grenades, a ghillie suit, and tactical gear. The presence of such equipment, combined with the detailed planning found in his residence, painted a picture of a man preparing for attacks on a large scale.

Authorities also discovered what they described as “disturbing evidence of premeditated hate crimes.” Maps of local schools, parks, and community sites were found in his home, covered with racial slurs targeting Black and Jewish individuals. Investigators located a “target list” that included a Jewish member of Congress, local synagogues, Jewish-owned businesses, and other ethnically identified sites. According to prosecutors, Lapinski had also been linked to an August 2024 incident that left a Jewish resident’s home and car riddled with bullets, suggesting that his plans were not merely theoretical.

“Let this sentence serve as a warning: hate-fueled violence will be met with decisive federal prosecution,” said U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones. “We will disrupt your plans, seize your weapons, and ensure you never endanger the people of this District again.”

Authorities emphasized that the combination of weapons, tactical gear, and targeted plans made this case particularly serious. Federal prosecutors argued that Lapinski’s actions represented a direct threat to public safety, with potential to harm not just individual targets, but entire communities. The 25-year sentence reflects the gravity of the offenses and the potential consequences had the plot succeeded.
