Oakland Park, Florida – The Oakland Park Library is preparing for a major transition this fall, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the city’s residents. As the library prepares to temporarily relocate to the Jaco Pastorius Community Center, staff and community members alike are looking forward to continued access to services while anticipating the arrival of a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in the near future.

The temporary relocation, set to begin in October 2025, will move the library to the Jaco Pastorius Community Center at 1098 NE 40th Court. Library staff are already hard at work packing up collections, materials, and equipment to ensure a seamless transition. While most programs will pause during this period, weekly Children’s Storytime will continue on Wednesdays at 10 a.m., maintaining a connection with young readers during the move. Residents seeking more information can reach the library team at 954-630-4370.

“This move is an important step forward for our library and our community,” a library spokesperson said. “We are committed to providing continued access to resources while we prepare for a future that will expand educational, technological, and workforce opportunities for all residents.”

Looking beyond the temporary move, the long-term vision for the Oakland Park Library is ambitious and transformative. The library will eventually relocate to a brand-new facility at the Collins Community Center, located at 3900 NE 3rd Avenue. This modern library will not only serve as a center for books and learning but also as a hub for technology, workforce development, and community engagement. The project is supported by a $2 million FloridaCommerce grant, which will help fund programs that expand educational access, enhance job readiness, and drive economic revitalization.

The new facility promises to be a vibrant, inclusive space for residents of all ages. Planned features include expanded educational and workforce programs, access to technology and spaces for telehealth visits, job interviews, and online learning. A cutting-edge technology hub will provide residents with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world, while flexible and inclusive spaces will accommodate gatherings, study sessions, and community events. Centrally located in City Centennial Park, the library is envisioned as a cornerstone of a walkable, dynamic neighborhood that strengthens quality of life and supports local economic growth.

“This move is about more than a change of address,” city officials said. “It reflects Oakland Park’s commitment to equity, opportunity, and thoughtful growth. By expanding educational access, enhancing job readiness, and creating spaces for connection, the new library will help shape a stronger, more connected community for years to come.”

In preparation for the move, residents can expect to see activity at both the current library and the temporary location this fall. The library team is carefully coordinating logistics to minimize disruption while packing and transporting materials, ensuring that the community will continue to have access to essential services during this transition.

Oakland Park officials emphasize that the library’s relocation and eventual opening of the new Collins Community Center facility are part of a broader vision for the city’s second century. The initiative is designed not only to protect neighborhoods and enhance public spaces but also to foster economic growth, job creation, and community engagement.

“The new library will anchor a vibrant, walkable area, creating opportunities for education, technology, and economic revitalization,” the spokesperson said. “We thank our residents for their patience and support during this exciting transition, and we look forward to welcoming them to a library that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of our community.”

As Oakland Park moves forward with this ambitious project, the library stands as a symbol of the city’s dedication to fostering learning, innovation, and connection. Residents can look forward to a modern, inclusive facility that will serve as both a hub for knowledge and a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization, ensuring that the library continues to play a vital role in the life of the community for generations to come.
