Fort Lauderdale, Florida – The City of Fort Lauderdale is taking a proactive step to enhance traffic safety in the Riverside Park neighborhood with the installation of a new curb along SW 5th Place. The project, which stretches between SW 18th Avenue and SW 19th Terrace, is designed to keep the shoulder clear, improve visibility, and make the roadway safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

Construction is set to begin on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, and city officials expect the work to be completed by the end of that week. The project will take place on weekdays, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., though officials caution that the schedule may shift due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Despite the work, city representatives have assured residents that the impact on the neighborhood will be minimal.

“All work will take place on the north shoulder of SW 5th Place, so the impact on the neighborhood will be minimal,” the city noted. With traffic expected to flow normally during construction, drivers and residents should notice little disruption to their daily routines.

The installation of the curb is part of a broader initiative by the City of Fort Lauderdale to improve safety across local roadways. By keeping the shoulder clear, the new curb will reduce the risk of accidents caused by vehicles parking too close to the roadway or pedestrians stepping into traffic. Improved visibility along this stretch of SW 5th Place is expected to benefit both residents and visitors, creating a safer and more navigable street for all.

City officials have expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and cooperation as the project moves forward. “We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to enhance public safety in the area,” a city spokesperson said, emphasizing the importance of community support for infrastructure improvements.

This small but important improvement along SW 5th Place demonstrates the city’s ongoing commitment to traffic safety and community well-being. By addressing visibility issues and ensuring the roadway remains clear, Fort Lauderdale is taking steps to protect its residents and create a safer environment for all who travel through the Riverside Park neighborhood.
