City of Pembroke Pines invites residents to attend Florida Talks lecture on Seminole portraits and history this November
Pembroke Pines, Florida – In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, the City of Pembroke Pines invites residents to attend a special lecture titled Seminole Portraits: Reflections Across Time on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Commission Chambers, located at 601 City Center Way. This free event will explore the history, culture, and enduring vitality of the Florida Seminoles through the lens of portraiture.
The lecture is part of the City’s Florida Talks program, a quarterly series presented in partnership with Florida Humanities. Designed to educate, engage, and inspire dialogue, Florida Talks features presentations that coincide with cultural celebrations throughout the year. Each session offers a platform for participants to learn about the people, stories, and traditions that shape Florida’s diverse communities.
For this session, folklorist Dr. Annette B. Fromm will guide attendees through the evolution of Seminole portraiture, highlighting how artwork has been used to document history, identity, and cultural continuity over time. Through her research, Dr. Fromm emphasizes both the historical significance and contemporary relevance of these visual records.
“This talk is free and open to the public, no registration needed,” the City of Pembroke Pines stated. “Recommended for ages 18+,” ensuring accessibility for adult audiences eager to learn more about Native American history and art. Funding for the program has been provided by Florida Humanities; however, the City notes that any views, conclusions, or recommendations expressed during the lecture do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities.
The event offers a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to engage directly with Seminole history in a meaningful and educational setting. Attendees will gain insight into how portraiture has been used as a tool for storytelling, cultural preservation, and community reflection across generations.
