Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia announces record return of 58 million dollars in unclaimed property to Floridians in September

Tallahassee, Florida – In a record-breaking achievement for the state of Florida, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Blaise Ingoglia announced that more than $58 million in unclaimed property was successfully returned to residents during the month of September. This marks the highest amount ever distributed in a single month through Florida’s Unclaimed Property Program, which works to reconnect citizens with their forgotten or abandoned financial assets.
Unclaimed property refers to money or financial assets that have been lost or left inactive by their rightful owners. These may include uncashed paychecks, dormant bank accounts, stock dividends, insurance proceeds, or even the contents of long-forgotten safe deposit boxes. When financial institutions, businesses, or government agencies are unable to locate the rightful owner after a designated period — typically five years — the assets are turned over to the Florida Department of Financial Services’ Division of Unclaimed Property.
“From forgotten bank accounts and insurance payments to utility deposits and stock dividends, we’re working every day to reunite hardworking taxpayers, families, and small businesses with the money they have earned,” said Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia. “In the month of September alone, our dedicated unclaimed property team returned a record $58 million back to the pockets of Floridians.”
The record return highlights a continued effort by the CFO’s office to make the process of claiming unclaimed property more accessible. Through the state’s official website, FLTreasureHunt.gov, residents can easily search for and claim money that rightfully belongs to them. In many cases, individuals discover that they are entitled to funds they had no idea were waiting to be claimed.
Each region of the state saw millions of dollars returned to its residents. The Miami area led the way with $12.6 million in returned assets, followed closely by Tampa/St. Petersburg with $11.9 million, and West Palm Beach with $10.9 million. In Orlando, residents received more than $10.8 million, while Jacksonville accounted for another $4.2 million. Smaller but significant amounts were also returned in Fort Myers/Naples ($2.4 million), Gainesville ($1.7 million), Pensacola ($1.4 million), Panama City ($1.1 million), and Tallahassee ($1.2 million).
These numbers reflect not only the scale of unclaimed assets in the state but also the success of Florida’s outreach initiatives encouraging residents to check if they have unclaimed property. The Division of Unclaimed Property continues to partner with community organizations and financial institutions to promote awareness and streamline the claims process.
CFO Ingoglia emphasized that this milestone demonstrates how government initiatives can directly benefit taxpayers. “Our mission is simple — to return every dollar to its rightful owner,” he said. “Every unclaimed account we resolve is a win for a family, a business, or a community.”
The Division of Unclaimed Property currently holds billions of dollars in unclaimed assets. Floridians are encouraged to regularly search the online database at FLTreasureHunt.gov, as new properties are reported every day by financial institutions and companies across the state.
With this latest record-setting month, Florida continues to lead by example in ensuring that lost or forgotten assets make their way back into the hands of those who earned them. The CFO’s office remains committed to transparency, efficiency, and service — one claim at a time.
