Broward County, Florida – Larkdale Elementary School in Lauderhill is celebrating a major milestone with the grand opening of its new culinary program, an initiative designed to teach students the fundamentals of cooking while fostering creativity and essential life skills. The ribbon-cutting event, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, will feature a live culinary demonstration by students and recognize the community partners who helped bring the program to life.

The program, developed in collaboration with Broward County Public Schools’ Career, Technical, Adult and Community Education (CTACE) Department and Boyd Anderson High School’s Culinary Program, aims to provide students with hands-on experience in safe food handling, preparation, and culinary science. By introducing students to cooking at an early age, the program creates a pathway for career exploration in the culinary arts that can continue through middle and high school.

“Our culinary program is more than a classroom – it’s an opportunity for our students to explore creativity, teamwork and innovation,” said Larkdale Elementary Principal Nandrane Fairclough. “Together with our incredible community partners, we are unlocking the power within our students to succeed today and thrive tomorrow.”

In addition to traditional culinary instruction, the program integrates Larkdale Elementary’s new community garden, allowing students to grow, harvest, and prepare fresh produce for their lessons. This farm-to-table approach not only teaches students about nutrition and sustainability but also gives them a tangible connection to the food they are preparing. By participating in every step of the process, from garden to plate, students gain an understanding of where their food comes from and how to transform raw ingredients into healthy, delicious meals.

The ribbon-cutting event promises to be a lively and educational experience for attendees, including school administrators, BCPS leadership, City of Lauderhill officials, and local community partners. Students will showcase their culinary skills in real-time demonstrations, giving parents and community members a firsthand look at what the program offers. The event also serves as a public acknowledgment of the partnerships and support that made the program possible.

Beyond culinary skills, the program is designed to build teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity—skills that are valuable in both academic and professional settings. By starting culinary education at the elementary level, Larkdale Elementary hopes to spark interest in the culinary field early, giving students the confidence and experience to continue developing their skills as they progress through school.

With the launch of this new culinary initiative, the school is creating opportunities for students to explore passions, develop practical skills, and engage meaningfully with their community from an early age.

The grand opening of Larkdale Elementary’s culinary program is not just a celebration of food—it’s a celebration of creativity, learning, and community, bringing together students, educators, and local partners in a shared vision for student success.
